That represents a 6% jump from the year-ago period and is more than double the university’s funded research in FY 2013. At the same time, private contributions to Purdue rose nearly 4% to $621 million, another all-time high.

Both new records mark the second consecutive year these two major components of the university’s financial and research enterprise surpassed $600 million annually.

“The impressive performance this past year is a testament to the persistent pursuit of excellence at scale by our faculty, staff, students and alumni, touching every aspect of this dynamic university full of momentum,” Chiang said.

Highlights of Purdue’s fiscal year 2024 financial activity:

The record $621 million in philanthropic giving was propelled by a nearly 2% jump in the number of donors, rising to 85,421.

Funding for sponsored research surged to $647 million from $613 million in the previous fiscal year. Purdue’s total research awards have steadily climbed each year since 2013 and are considered a high benchmark for a university without either a medical school or a major Department of Defense establishment. The year’s funding will support approximately 3,500 research projects.

The university’s endowment climbed to $4.1 billion, reflecting an 11.6% return and an inflow during the year of $82 million.

A barometer of the university’s thriving entrepreneurship culture, intellectual property disclosures surged nearly 17% to 466 from 400 in fiscal 2023, the Office of Technology Commercialization reported. During the same period, 290 patents were issued, up 11%, while the number of patents licenses skyrocketed 49% to 224.
