{"id":7016,"date":"2023-09-15T14:03:00","date_gmt":"2023-09-15T18:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/?p=7016"},"modified":"2024-07-26T14:05:29","modified_gmt":"2024-07-26T18:05:29","slug":"nsf-awards-2m-to-purdues-college-of-education-downtown-boxing-gym-for-stem-based-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/2023\/Q3\/nsf-awards-2m-to-purdues-college-of-education-downtown-boxing-gym-for-stem-based-research","title":{"rendered":"NSF awards $2M to Purdue\u2019s College of Education, Downtown Boxing Gym for STEM-based research"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"purdue-initial-words-wrap\"><p class=\"purdue-initial-words wp-block-paragraph\">WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. &mdash;<\/p> \n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsf.gov\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>National Science Foundation<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;awarded a $2 million grant to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Purdue University<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/education.purdue.edu\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>College of Education<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;and the<a href=\"https:\/\/dbgdetroit.org\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>&nbsp;Downtown Boxing Gym<\/strong><\/a>, a free, out-of-school-time program on Detroit\u2019s east side, for a five-year research study to further evaluate, measure and magnify the far-reaching impact of DBG\u2019s innovative STEM-based programming.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every weekday, elementary through high school students opt in to participate in a variety of classes in the DBG STEAM lab \u2014 studying everything from computer coding, robotics and digital animation to insects, weather patterns, animal life cycles and more.
