On Thursday, July 25, attendees can learn about topics like companion plants and syrphid fly recruitment, high-tunnel sweet pepper and table grape production, raised bed gardening, strawberry production and propagation, postharvest wash\/pack design, Peruvian bean and corn production, and onion and potato weed management updates. The event is presented by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/hla\/sites\/studentfarm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Purdue Student Farm<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ag.purdue.edu\/hla\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to surveys from previous years, 80% of participants reported that they had experienced financial improvements after adopting new, recommended practices from the information presented at past field days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis field day brings together small farm and urban growers from all over Indiana. Its unique setup allows ample time for knowledge sharing and networking,\u201d says Petrus Langenhoven, Purdue Student Farm director. \u201cIn past years, growers have been able to directly apply the knowledge gained at their own farms or urban gardens. The smallest details, things that we as educators take for granted, have a big impact on small farm or urban garden operations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Topics to be covered include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Insect dynamics in high tunnels<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Companion plants and syrphid fly recruitment\u202f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>High-tunnel table grapes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Advantages and considerations of raised bed gardening<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>High-tunnel sweet pepper production strategies and variety selection<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tarps, fire and cultivation \u2014 weed management updates and demonstrations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strawberry production at small-scale vegetable farms<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Growing open-pollinated corn on small farms<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Post-harvest wash\/pack design for small farms<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bringing the cuisine of the Andes to Greater Lafayette<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Digital tools for small farms<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Freight Farms container farming<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Purdue Student Farm is located at 1491 Cherry Lane, West Lafayette, Indiana.
