{"id":5970,"date":"2022-11-15T18:54:00","date_gmt":"2022-11-15T18:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/?p=5970"},"modified":"2024-07-17T18:56:26","modified_gmt":"2024-07-17T18:56:26","slug":"college-of-liberal-arts-tech-ethics-video-series-explores-the-ethical-leadership-of-emerging-digital-technologies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/2022\/Q4\/college-of-liberal-arts-tech-ethics-video-series-explores-the-ethical-leadership-of-emerging-digital-technologies","title":{"rendered":"College of Liberal Arts \u2018Tech Ethics Video Series\u2019 explores the ethical leadership of emerging digital technologies"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"purdue-initial-words-wrap\"><p class=\"purdue-initial-words wp-block-paragraph\">WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. &mdash;<\/p> \n<p>Building upon its initiative to create a model program focusing on professional ethics at the intersection of the liberal arts and technological innovation, the Purdue University College of Liberal Arts has released a video series exploring the topics as a part of the \u201cLeading Ethically in the Age of AI and Big Data\u201d project, supported by a grant from Lilly Endowment Inc.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The \u201cTech Ethics Video Series\u201d includes 22 presentations by leading technology and ethics experts from diverse professional backgrounds, including industry, academia, the nonprofit sector and government. The series features both national and international speakers exploring a wide array of themes regarding ethical considerations across new digital technologies. Topics discussed include responsible and equitable technology, autonomous technologies, the future of work, data governance and privacy, algorithmic bias, artificial intelligence and K12 education, public interest technology and natural language processing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs emerging technologies continue to change all sectors of our society, it\u2019s important for us to consider their ethical implications,\u201d said David A. Reingold, the Justin S. Morrill Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Professor of Sociology at Purdue, who led the project. \u201cThe next generation of leaders must be prepared to navigate the complex challenges that emerging technologies create. The video series encourages future leaders to ask thoughtful questions in pursuit of ethical and sensible solutions to issues surrounding emerging technologies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the featured experts are Vint Cerf, recognized as one of the \u201cfathers of the Internet\u201d and now vice president and chief internet evangelist at Google; Shannon Vallor, the Baillie Gifford Professor in the Ethics of Data and AI at the University of Edinburgh; Jeroen van den Hoven, professor of ethics and technology at Delft University of Technology, Netherlands; and Ora Tanner, founder and CEO of Black Unicorn Education\u1d40\u1d39 and co-founder of the AI Education Project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The \u201cTech Ethics Video Series\u201d is a free resource for educators and communities of experts.
