{"id":5078,"date":"2022-09-23T13:48:00","date_gmt":"2022-09-23T13:48:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/?p=5078"},"modified":"2024-07-11T13:50:50","modified_gmt":"2024-07-11T13:50:50","slug":"purdue-dedicates-new-building-for-bands-orchestras-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/2022\/Q3\/purdue-dedicates-new-building-for-bands-orchestras-program","title":{"rendered":"Purdue dedicates new building for Bands &amp; Orchestras program"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"purdue-initial-words-wrap\"><p class=\"purdue-initial-words wp-block-paragraph\">WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. &mdash;<\/p> \n<p>Purdue University on Friday (Sept. 23) dedicated Marc and Sharon Hagle Hall, a new home for Purdue Bands &amp; Orchestras.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;four-story&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/releases\/2020\/Q1\/10-million-gift-sets-the-stage-for-new-bands-and-orchestras-building.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">building is named<\/a>&nbsp;for Marc and Sharon Hagle in honor of&nbsp;their&nbsp;$10 million leadership gift. Marc earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in electrical engineering from Purdue in 1971 and a master\u2019s degree in business and industrial administration in 1972.&nbsp;Purdue Bands &amp; Orchestras had operated out of Elliott Hall of Music since 1940.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cStudents who are part of the Purdue Bands &amp; Orchestras family enjoy life-changing experiences that enrich their lives and education,\u201d the Hagles said in a joint statement. \u201cWe look forward to the positive impact this new home will make on both the university and those who study here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A dedicated environment for teaching and learning, Hagle Hall will promote students\u2019 lifelong journeys with music.&nbsp;Approved by the Purdue Board of Trustees in 2019, the $22 million 37,500-square-foot facility is located at the southeast corner of Third and Russell streets. It stands along the Student Success Corridor, which connects student residential areas with the campus\u2019s academic center. A total of 1,554 donors contributed to the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPurdue\u2019s musical ensembles raise our spirits and touch our hearts. Through this beautiful new building, we have taken a giant leap toward providing Purdue Bands &amp; Orchestras with a world-class environment where students will develop and showcase their exceptional talents,\u201d Purdue President Mitch Daniels said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hagle&nbsp;Hall features accessible and environmentally controlled rehearsal spaces, including individual, small and large practice rooms with state-of-the-art acoustics; three rehearsal rooms that can double as classrooms; and a glass display for the \u201cAll-American\u201d Marching Band\u2019s iconic Big Bass Drum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis building is a game-changer for Purdue Bands &amp; Orchestras,\u201d said Jay Gephart, the Al G. Wright Chair, director of bands and a professor of music. \u201cWith our new facilities, we open up brand-new significant opportunities for Boilermaker musicians for years to come. Marc and Sharon\u2019s generous gift, along with the amazing support of our alumni and friends, has laid the foundation for decades of impact.
