The clinical-stage life sciences diagnostic company is developing tests for early, more accurate detection of challenging diseases, starting with pancreatic cancer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Amplified Sciences has received a Phase I matching grant of $50,000 from the Indiana Economic Development Corp.\u2019s Applied Research Institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CEO Diana Caldwell said the funding will support critical development of Amplified Sciences\u2019 novel ultrasensitive optical reporter platform technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis, our second SBIR award, will enable further development of multiplexing capabilities for pancreatic cancer panels and beyond,\u201d Caldwell said. \u201cWe are excited to be awarded this highly competitive NSF SBIR grant. This brings our total of nondilutive funding to over $1 million.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Amplified Sciences also recently received&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/releases\/2024\/Q1\/amplified-sciences-receives-108k-flywheel-fund-investment-to-develop-pancreatic-cancer-diagnostics.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">investments worth $108,000 from the Flywheel Fund<\/a>. In 2023 the company&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/releases\/2023\/Q3\/amplified-sciences-receives-400,000-nci-grant-to-improve-early-detection-of-pancreatic-cancer.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">received a Phase 1 SBIR grant of approximately $400,000 from the National Cancer Institute<\/a>&nbsp;and a $50,000 match from the state of Indiana to develop pancreatic cancer risk stratification tests. It was named to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/releases\/2021\/Q4\/amplified-sciences,-a-life-science-diagnostic-company,-named-to-most-fundable-companies-list.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pepperdine University Graziadio Business School\u2019s Most Fundable Companies list in 2021<\/a>&nbsp;and to the New York University Stern School of Business\u2019 Endless Frontier Labs life science cohort in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Purdue innovations<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Amplified Sciences\u2019 diagnostic tests are based on technology invented by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcmp.purdue.edu\/faculty\/davisson\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">V. Jo Davisson<\/a>, professor of medicinal chemistry and molecular pharmacology in Purdue University\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pharmacy.purdue.edu\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">College of Pharmacy<\/a>&nbsp;and a faculty member of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/cancer-research\/index.php\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Purdue Institute for Cancer Research<\/a>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/discoverypark\/drug-discovery\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Purdue Institute for Drug Discovery<\/a>. Davisson serves as the company\u2019s chief scientific officer. The company licenses Davisson\u2019s intellectual property through the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/purdueinnovates.org\/otc\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Purdue Innovates Office of Technology Commercialization<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Facts about pancreatic cancer&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In its&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cancer.org\/content\/dam\/cancer-org\/research\/cancer-facts-and-statistics\/annual-cancer-facts-and-figures\/2023\/2023-cancer-facts-and-figures.pdf\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cancer Facts &amp; Figures 2023 report<\/a>, the American Cancer Society estimated that more than 64,000 Americans were expected to be diagnosed with new cases of pancreatic cancer in 2023. It estimated that more than 50,000 would die from the disease in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pancreatic cancer signs and symptoms, like jaundice, severe abdominal pain, weight loss and vomiting, don\u2019t appear until advanced stages of the disease. If a diagnosis is made at an advanced stage, treatments including surgery and pharmaceuticals seldom produce a cure.
