(Photo\/Tate Kirgiss\/Kirgiss Creative)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among those celebrated were Chris Greene, a theoretical physicist and the Albert Overhauser Distinguished Professor of Physics and Astronomy,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/purduetoday\/releases\/2024\/Q2\/distinguished-professor-chris-greene-selected-as-2024-morrill-award-winner.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">who was named Purdue\u2019s Morrill Award winner<\/a>. The Morrill Award is the highest honor that Purdue confers on a faculty member and recognizes faculty who best exhibit excellence in teaching, research and engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tara Grillos, an associate professor of political science in the College of Liberal Arts,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/purduetoday\/releases\/2024\/Q2\/tara-grillos-selected-for-purdues-2024-trailblazer-award.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">received Purdue\u2019s Trailblazer Award<\/a>. The Trailblazer Award is presented to outstanding midcareer faculty in the&nbsp;College of Education, College of Liberal Arts, College of Health and Human Sciences, and the Purdue University Libraries&nbsp;whose recent research, scholarship or creative work has made a significant impact in the disciplines of humanities, social sciences and information sciences.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also recognized were Purdue\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/uns\/PurdueToday\/archive\/2024\/05-May\/240502TeachingAwardsSpecialIssue.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">eight special teaching award winners<\/a>&nbsp;\u2014 the instructors who go above and beyond to provide exceptional educational experiences and who received the Charles B. Murphy Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award, the Exceptional Early Career Teaching Award and the Excellence in Instruction Award for Lecturers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Charles B. (Photo\/Tate Kirgiss\/Kirgiss Creative)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Exceptional Early Career Teaching Award<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Betsy Parkinson, assistant professor of chemistry and medicinal chemistry and molecular pharmacology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lindsey Payne, director of service-learning and assistant professor of practice in environmental and ecological engineering\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Excellence in Instruction Award for Lecturers<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Linda Haynes, senior lecturer of English and associate director of introductory composition<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Three faculty received Research Awards \u2014 Kathryn Cramer Brownell (Lu Ann Aday Award), Anand Raghunathan (Arden L. Bement Jr. Award) and Matthew Huber (Herbert Newby McCoy Award) \u2014 and three earned Engagement Awards: Jennifer Bay (Faculty Engagement Fellow Award), Casey Mull (Faculty Engagement Scholar Award) and Ellen Schellhase (Service-Learning Award).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some 48 faculty were acknowledged for receiving prestigious external awards between March 2023 and March 2024, as recognized by the U.S. National Research Council.&nbsp;The Provost\u2019s Office also celebrated Purdue\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/purduetoday\/releases\/2024\/Q2\/trustees-approve-faculty-promotions-tenured-faculty-transferring-from-iupui-to-purdue-west-lafayette.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">newly promoted faculty<\/a>&nbsp;colleagues, approved in April by the Board of Trustees.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Office of the Provost hosted its annual Faculty Honors Ceremony and Reception on Tuesday (May 7) to honor those who contribute to the excellence of Purdue University and its people.
