Todd Young and Secretary Gina Raimondo to advance this critical foundation for national security and economic security.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During a leadership roundtable led by Raimondo, Chiang announced a three-point action plan to boost Purdue\u2019s semiconductor partnership with Costa Rica:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"390\" height=\"520\" src=\"https:\/\/new.www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/chiang-m19.jpg\" alt=\"Purdue President Mung Chiang\" class=\"wp-image-3927\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/chiang-m19.jpg 390w, https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/chiang-m19-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 390px) 100vw, 390px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Purdue President Mung Chiang<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Purdue will offer the Semiconductor Degrees Program curriculum to Costa Rica\u2019s top universities and provide opportunities to access collaborative research and educational resources such as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nanohub.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">nanoHUB<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/chipshub.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">chipshub<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Purdue University Online will make available Spanish versions of its interdisciplinary Master of Science in Engineering, with a specialization in microelectronics and semiconductors, and its Master of Science in artificial intelligence, while also collaborating with Costa Rica\u2019s Digital Center of Excellence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Purdue\u2019s College of Engineering will explore collaboration with top Costa Rican universities on research and innovation in chip design and packaging.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Last July the U.S. State Department announced that it will partner with the Costa Rican government to explore opportunities to diversify and grow the global semiconductor ecosystem.&nbsp;The partnership was enabled by the International Technology Security and Innovation (ITSI) Fund, created as a part of the U.S. CHIPS and Science Act of 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Raimondo is no stranger to Purdue\u2019s expertise in the semiconductor and microelectronics space. In September 2022 she, along with Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, toured Purdue\u2019s semiconductor facilities, including the Birck Nanotechnology Center.&nbsp;The tour highlighted the university\u2019s leading-edge research and workforce development efforts that can help the United States restore domestic semiconductor manufacturing and competitiveness abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Raimondo also took part last spring in Purdue\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/releases\/2023\/Q2\/purdue-convenes-chips-summit-in-d.c-with-sec-raimondo-and-sen-young-announces-sustainability-index-and-facility-investment.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">inaugural national CHIPS summit<\/a>&nbsp;in Washington, D.C., to forge national solutions in the U.S. semiconductor industry, saying at the time, \u201cI was blown away by what I saw when I visited Purdue, insofar as, in my assessment, it is exactly what the United States needs to be doing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>International partnerships have become a hallmark of excellence for Purdue, and not only in the semiconductor ecosystem. Over the past 12 months, the university has forged agreements and memorandums of understanding with numerous countries, including&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/releases\/2023\/Q4\/european-technology-leader-imec-opens-innovation-hub-at-purdue.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Belgium<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/releases\/2023\/Q2\/purdue-establishes-milestone-semiconductor-alliance-with-india-agreement-provides-foundation-to-advance-workforce-development-joint-research-and-innovation-and-global-industry-collaborations.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">India<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/releases\/2023\/Q2\/purdue-signs-landmark-u.s-japan-agreement-in-semiconductors-at-g7-summit.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Japan<\/a>, Taiwan and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/releases\/2023\/Q2\/purdue-launches-partnership-with-greek-universities-and-business-chamber-deepens-collaboration-with-european-semiconductor-hub-in-belgium.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Greece<\/a>,&nbsp;as well as with multiple academic and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/releases\/2023\/Q2\/purdue-tsmc-extend-partnership-on-semiconductor-research-and-workforce-development.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">industry partners<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next month Purdue will again host a high-profile national CHIPS summit to further explore the nation\u2019s critical semiconductor industry. The daylong summit, named&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.purdue.edu\/semiconductors\/news\/development-summit-2024\/index_html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CHIPS for America: Execute for Global Success<\/a>, will convene key government, industry and academic stakeholders from the U.S. and allied nations to discuss mutually reinforcing road maps for semiconductor R&amp;D and workforce in a global context.
