White Real Estate Finance Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"purdue-initial-words-wrap\"><p class=\"purdue-initial-words\">WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. &mdash;<\/p> \n<p>Purdue University\u2019s School of Management formally announced the Dean V. White Real Estate Finance Program on Friday (April 22) at its 2022 Krannert Alumni Awards Celebration Dinner. The new program, named in memory of the late Indiana entrepreneur in recognition of a $20.8 million pledge from the Dean and Barbara White Family Foundation, was approved on April 8 by Purdue trustees. The gift is the largest monetary contribution ever made to the School of Management.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The Dean V. White Real Estate Finance Program will be launched as an academic minor in the 2022-23 school year and available to management students and students in other disciplines across the university.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"429\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/new.www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/white-krannertLO.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4266\" style=\"width:300px\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/white-krannertLO.jpg 429w, https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/white-krannertLO-215x300.jpg 215w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 429px) 100vw, 429px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Barbara and Dean White (Photo provided)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Targeting the growing demand for talent within the rapidly evolving real estate industry, the program will provide an academic experience for students that equips them to plan, develop and manage successful commercial real estate projects. High-impact experiential learning opportunities \u2013 a key component of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/provost\/about\/provostInitiatives\/excellence\/index.php\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Purdue\u2019s Next Moves: Transformative Education 2.0<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 will connect students with real estate experts and prepare them for industry-leading positions and careers. Four new faculty positions are created through the new program\u2019s funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A portion of the gift will be used to create or renovate space in or on the site of the Krannert Center for Executive Education and Research to house the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are seeing fascinating changes in real estate markets to how and where people live, work and recreate. These changes represent a fundamental challenge and opportunity for business,\u201d said David Hummels, the Dr. Samuel R. Allen Dean of the Krannert School of Management.&nbsp;\u201cWe have brought together an outstanding group of faculty with deep subject matter expertise and significant experience leading and teaching in some of the world\u2019s best real estate programs. Graduates from this program will be ready to take a leadership role in confronting these challenges and seizing these opportunities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are grateful for the foundation\u2019s generosity and will ensure the program positively represents Dean\u2019s legacy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bill Hanna, executive director of the Dean and Barbara White Family Foundation, said, \u201cDean\u2019s true love \u2013 second to his family \u2013 was real estate and the creative nuances of crafting the perfect deal, a deal that starts with a new vision for an area and that results in new businesses, jobs and a stronger community. This program will help cultivate a similar passion in students aspiring to do great things in business and in their communities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Continued support from the White family<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Dean White was a veteran of World War II, attended the University of Nebraska and was a graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy in King\u2019s Point, New York. He spent most of his life in Crown Point, Indiana, where he developed a successful entrepreneurial career in advertising and real estate development, eventually becoming one of Indiana\u2019s most prominent philanthropists and successful business leaders. He died in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dean, his son Bruce and the White family have been generous contributors to Purdue over the past three decades. Their generosity includes a combined gift of $30 million that helped transform the Union Club Hotel at Purdue, Autograph Collection, which, in addition to being a luxury boutique hotel on campus, is used as a learning laboratory for Purdue hospitality students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bruce White is a Purdue graduate and past Purdue trustee who remains heavily involved in Purdue\u2019s hospitality program through his company, White Lodging, based in Northwest Indiana. In 2021, Purdue renamed its hospitality school the White Lodging-J.W.
