{"id":3913,"date":"2023-04-27T18:51:00","date_gmt":"2023-04-27T18:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/?p=3913"},"modified":"2024-06-26T19:50:44","modified_gmt":"2024-06-26T19:50:44","slug":"purdue-day-of-giving-launches-university-into-next-giant-leap-with-record","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/2023\/Q2\/purdue-day-of-giving-launches-university-into-next-giant-leap-with-record","title":{"rendered":"Purdue Day of Giving thanks all donors for historic $110.8 million"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"purdue-initial-words-wrap\"><p class=\"purdue-initial-words\">WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. &mdash;<\/p> \n<p>Boilermakers around the world celebrated the 10th Purdue Day of Giving, held Wednesday (April 26), by demonstrating their support to Purdue University\u2019s campuses and programs \u2014 and raising a record $110.8 million in the process.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s 24-hour online, social media-driven fundraising effort inspired 27,855 gifts, shattering last year\u2019s results and bringing Purdue Day of Giving\u2019s cumulative total since its launch in 2014 to $420.5 million.\u00a0The new historic high followed last year\u2019s record $68.2 million and 26,726 gifts.\u00a0All gifts are donor directed to support the initiatives and programs they specify (<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/xLb14E9BlW0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">see thank-you video<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" src=\"https:\/\/new.www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/giving-leapLO.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3918\" style=\"width:1000px;height:auto\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/giving-leapLO.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/giving-leapLO-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/giving-leapLO-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">More than 3,000 students, faculty and staff took part in the Purdue Day of Giving on-campus celebration, which included a 20-foot-high stunt jump on the Memorial Mall. Thank you all for your extraordinary support that made this Purdue Day of Giving a truly historic one, with the milestone results of $110.8 million that shattered our single-day fundraising record by a margin even larger than we ever anticipated,\u201d said Purdue President Mung Chiang. \u201cIt is an honor to represent the Purdue University system and thank the generous alumni, students, families, colleagues and organizations across the globe. I was particularly privileged to have the \u2018investiture run\u2019 and host a \u2018community cookout\u2019 on such a meaningful day for our university.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Purdue Day of Giving encompasses all of the university\u2019s campuses \u2014 West Lafayette, Purdue Fort Wayne and Purdue Northwest \u2014 as well as Purdue Global.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through 28 hourly challenges and six #IGave challenges, 81 academic and nonacademic programs competed for cash prizes. Gifts ranged from $10 to $20 million, supporting a range of programs and academic initiatives. Among the gifts made were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Transformational gift from Thomas Howatt to support the Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr. School of Business.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>$17 million from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/releases\/2023\/Q2\/pharmacy-alumna-and-husband-give-additional-17-million-to-support-purdue-college-of-pharmacy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jeannie and Jim Chaney\u00a0<\/a>to support scholarships in the College of Pharmacy.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>$10 million from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/releases\/2023\/Q2\/purdue-university-receives-10-million-commitment-from-alumni-william-and-barbara-rakosnik.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">William and Barbara Rakosnik\u00a0<\/a>in support of the School of Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Psychological Sciences and University Residences.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>$1.2 million from Walter Gautschi, in memory of Erika Gautschi, for PhD student support in computational mathematics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>$250,000 from Willard Agri-Service\u00a0to fund the renovation of the sixth-floor conference room in the Agricultural Economics Department.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>$50,000 from Michelle Tucker and Darin Melnyk to support a scholarship endowment in the Brian Lamb School of Communication.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Major gift from Jennifer Crandall to support the Emerging Leaders Scholars program, a universitywide diversity initiative.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>$10 from Ata Tamer, president of the Turkish Student Association, to support the organization.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, thanks to a leadership-level gift from Drew and Brittany Brees, 356 donors at three different giving levels to the new&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/purduesports.com\/news\/2023\/4\/24\/football-brees-family-leading-effort-to-honor-the-legacy-of-legendary-coach-joe-tiller.aspx\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tiller Tunnel<\/a>&nbsp;initiative had their donation matched and will be publicly recognized on the wall at the entrance to this future enhancement of Ross-Ade Stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOnce again, Boilermakers have shown their Purdue pride by setting another record for dollars raised through a higher education day of giving,\u201d said Matt Folk, president and CEO of the Purdue for Life Foundation and vice president of university advancement and alumni engagement for Purdue University. \u201cThe accomplishments of Purdue\u2019s students, faculty and staff are only possible through the loyal support of our alumni, friends, fans and community members.
