{"id":3259,"date":"2022-04-04T21:11:00","date_gmt":"2022-04-04T21:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/?p=3259"},"modified":"2025-01-24T14:04:47","modified_gmt":"2025-01-24T19:04:47","slug":"graduate-students-faculty-take-part-in-purdue-university-globals-first-ever-education-abroad-to-london","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/2022\/Q2\/graduate-students-faculty-take-part-in-purdue-university-globals-first-ever-education-abroad-to-london","title":{"rendered":"Graduate students, faculty take part in Purdue University Global\u2019s first-ever education abroad to London"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"purdue-initial-words-wrap\"><p class=\"purdue-initial-words wp-block-paragraph\">WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. &mdash;<\/p> \n<p>When <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdueglobal.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Purdue University Global<\/a> launched its concentration and microcredential in global business, the end goal was to put graduate students\u2019 knowledge into action with the university\u2019s first-ever education abroad program.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Seven Purdue University Global students \u2014 accompanied by five faculty members \u2014 took part in that experience with a trip to London in March. The travelers participated in educational tours about sustainability, finance, marketing, entrepreneurship, culture and history, all while building lifelong connections with each other. Students also were able to attend several cultural events, such as a pub quiz with London-based Purdue alumni, afternoon tea at Kensington Palace and a performance of \u201cHamlet\u201d at Shakespeare\u2019s Globe Theatre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Program lead <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdueglobal.edu\/degree-programs\/business\/faculty-leadership\/#jennifer-teague\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jennifer Teague<\/a> was joined by future trip leaders <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdueglobal.edu\/degree-programs\/business\/faculty-leadership\/#jackie-deem\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jack Deem<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdueglobal.edu\/degree-programs\/business\/faculty-leadership\/#pam-delotell\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pam DeLotell<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdueglobal.edu\/degree-programs\/business\/faculty-leadership\/#catherine-flynn\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Catherine Flynn<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdueglobal.edu\/degree-programs\/health-sciences\/faculty-leadership\/#tricia-berry\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tricia Berry<\/a>, each of whom supported students in making connections between course concepts and cultural immersion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhen I heard about the first-ever Purdue University Global education abroad program in London, I knew I wanted to be a part of it,\u201d said Amanda Tully, a global business MBA student. \u201cI am thankful I pursued the global business concentration and got the opportunity to join this amazing group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDr. Teague created an unforgettable experience, and I am grateful for the time I spent with her, the other amazing professors and leaders, and my awesome classmates who I finally got to meet in person. We were able to experience firsthand everything we\u2019ve been studying for months now, and we created what already feels like lifelong friendships in the process. I am forever grateful for this life-changing experience.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As part of the program, graduate students Anna Flynn, Omid Laborada, Jenna Quicke, Erin Stransky, Megan Stransky, Michelle Tannlund and Amanda Tully each earned the esteemed AFS Global Competence Certificate (GCC), an internationally recognized mark of advanced skills in intercultural fluency and diversity awareness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIncorporating&nbsp;an education abroad opportunity&nbsp;into Purdue University Global\u2019s new global business concentration helped fulfill a mission to provide more opportunities for international engagement to our students,\u201d Teague said. \u201cAs we created the program over the last year, we had so much support from stakeholders at Purdue West Lafayette, Purdue&nbsp;Global and Kaplan North America. It was a truly collaborative effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTo stand in London and physically see the connections students made with the culture, the course concepts and each other made all the effort more than worth it. It was such a powerful reminder that these immersive experiences are important for students to recognize they are part of a much bigger world, and they can play a key role in making the world a better place by being responsible and responsive global citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Education abroad opportunities are available to both undergraduate and graduate students across Purdue University Global.
