{"id":295,"date":"2022-02-15T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-02-15T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/?p=295"},"modified":"2024-06-03T19:57:59","modified_gmt":"2024-06-03T19:57:59","slug":"2022-indiana-small-farm-conference-switches-to-virtual-amid-covid-concerns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/2022\/Q1\/2022-indiana-small-farm-conference-switches-to-virtual-amid-covid-concerns","title":{"rendered":"2022 Indiana Small Farm Conference switches to virtual amid COVID concerns"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"purdue-initial-words-wrap\"><p class=\"purdue-initial-words\">WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. &mdash;<\/p> \n<p>The 2022 Indiana Small Farm Conference \u2013 Indiana\u2019s premier annual event for the state\u2019s small and diversified farming community \u2013 has made the decision to pivot to a virtual platform amid the state\u2019s high numbers of COVID cases.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll of us from Purdue Extension were looking forward to spending time with farmers, colleagues and friends this March at the Indiana Small Farm Conference,\u201d said Nathan Shoaf, urban agriculture coordinator and conference committee member. \u201cWe waited as long as we could before making the decision to pivot from an in-person conference to a virtual one, but we determined it was the safest path forward for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 10th annual conference will offer free webinars and keynote speaker videos to all who&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/purdue.ca1.qualtrics.com\/jfe\/form\/SV_6wZ2JoJFpgivP9Q\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">register<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe hope to interact with many past conference participants, as well as those who are attending for the first time,\u201d Shoaf said. \u201cThank you to all of the farmers, vendors and sponsors who make this an incredible conference year after year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dbcfsn.org\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Malik KenyattaYakini<\/a>, co-founder and executive director of the Detroit Black Community Food Security Network, will keynote at 11:30 a.m. ET, March 3. Genesis McKiernan-Allen and Liz Brownlee, co-founders of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hoosieryfc.org\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hoosier Young Farmer Coalition,<\/a>&nbsp;will also present keynote remarks for the conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 2013, the Indiana Small Farm Conference has featured comprehensive programming about diversified farming and local food systems, bringing together novice and experienced small-scale farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am confident our excellent team of educators and farmers will deliver high-quality online content to help you continue to farm throughout this uncertain time,\u201d says Mike Hoopengardner, owner of Redbud Farm and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/caprinicreamery.com\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Caprini Creamery<\/a>&nbsp;and ISFC committee member. \u201cPlease join us virtually for the 10th annual Indiana Small Farm Conference.\u201d &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s free conference offers 10 tracks from which attendees can choose sessions that best align with their farming operations and goals:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Vegetable Production<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Livestock Production<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Marketing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Urban Agriculture<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Regenerative Agriculture<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Value Added<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Soil Health<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pollination Management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Perennial Crop Production<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Innovations in Response to Climate Change<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A detailed conference schedule will be available, and currently scheduled sessions are subject to change.
