Bush administrations, including his own role following the 9\/11 attacks, as well as his time as Indiana governor, an Eli Lilly and Company executive, and Purdue president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also shares his perspectives on the politicization of American life, the importance of working across political divides, the demands of seeking the United States presidency and accountability in higher education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhen my service at Purdue ended, I was unconvinced the world really needed a book of mine,\u201d Daniels said. \u201cBut after much encouragement, conflicting advice and months of procrastination, I launched myself on the task of recounting much of what, and whom, I encountered on an unplanned path that lurched, abruptly and unexpectedly, from sector to sector, new life to new life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After his two terms as governor, Daniels became Purdue\u2019s 12th president, serving from 2013-22. This era has been fondly deemed the \u201cDaniels Decade,\u201d during which Purdue became the nation\u2019s most recognized public university as Daniels prioritized student affordability, ending 36 years of consecutive tuition increases. He also placed an emphasis on free speech and intellectual diversity and was devoted to hosting in-person teaching while many other universities opted for lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other noteworthy achievements from his presidency include the launch of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/purduemoves\/\">Purdue Moves and Purdue\u2019s Next Moves<\/a> initiatives; the acquisition of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdueglobal.edu\/\">Purdue Global<\/a>, Purdue\u2019s online university for working adults; the creation of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pphs.purdue.edu\/\">Purdue Polytechnic High Schools<\/a>; the conception and expansion of <a href=\"https:\/\/discoveryparkdistrict.com\/\">Discovery Park District at Purdue<\/a>; a yearlong celebration of Purdue\u2019s 150th anniversary in 2019; the establishment of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cla.purdue.edu\/academic\/3year\/index.html\">Degree in 3<\/a> programs; the transformation of the State Street corridor in West Lafayette; the creation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/president\/lecture-series\/\">Presidential Lecture Series<\/a>; and the expansion of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/indianapolis\/\">Purdue\u2019s footprint to Indianapolis<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Daniels returned to the university July 1 after being appointed as Purdue\u2019s interim president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About the book<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cImpatience Is a Virtue: A Life Where the Buck Stops\u201d is a reflection of Daniels\u2019 journey to becoming one of the nation\u2019s most influential leaders and the transformative change he brought to America\u2019s public, private and nonprofit sectors.
