{"id":20958,"date":"2026-04-10T08:03:03","date_gmt":"2026-04-10T12:03:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/?p=20958"},"modified":"2026-04-17T13:57:59","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T17:57:59","slug":"purdue-once-again-makes-forbes-new-ivies-list-of-20-public-and-private-universities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/2026\/Q2\/purdue-once-again-makes-forbes-new-ivies-list-of-20-public-and-private-universities","title":{"rendered":"Purdue once again makes Forbes\u2019 \u2018New Ivies\u2019 list of 20 public and private universities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. \u2014 Purdue University, noted for its decision to implement an AI competency requirement for fall 2026 incoming undergraduate students, is featured again on Forbes\u2019 list of the top 10 public and top 10 private universities best equipping their students for the growing AI talent needs of employers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The third annual edition of the Forbes list, titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/aliciapark\/2026\/04\/08\/the-new-ivies-20-great-employer-friendly-colleges-embracing-ai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New Ivies 2026: 20 Great Employer-Friendly Colleges Embracing AI<\/a>,\u201d includes Purdue among the top 20 universities whose alums rate highly with employers, particularly among those preparing graduates for the AI wave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Universities on the list released Wednesday (April 8) were selected by Forbes based on survey input from over 100 C-suite and hiring executives, who were asked not only to rate schools but also to address how AI was changing their hiring of new grads. Forbes highlighted Purdue\u2019s decision, approved in December, to become the nation\u2019s first college to announce <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/2025\/Q4\/purdue-unveils-comprehensive-ai-strategy-trustees-approve-ai-working-competency-graduation-requirement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a comprehensive AI working competency graduation requirement<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s encouraging and affirming that the latest \u2018New Ivies\u2019 list recognizes the strategic value and urgency of higher ed to lean in and lean forward when it comes to the implications of the AI revolution sweeping across not just the U.S. but worldwide,\u201d said Purdue Provost Patrick Wolfe. \u201cBaked into Purdue\u2019s AI competency requirement for new students beginning this fall is a process that draws on continual input from university partners and industry leaders to ensure we are equipping our students to be successful in whatever career and discipline they choose to pursue.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Purdue is the only public university in Indiana and one of just three institutions from the 18-member Big Ten on the \u201cNew Ivies\u201d list. Based on Purdue\u2019s undergraduate enrollment, it also is the second largest among the 20 universities listed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In December, Purdue approved a broad strategy of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/ai\/\">AI@Purdue<\/a> across five functional areas: Learning with AI, Learning about AI, Research AI, Using AI and Partnering in AI. Included was the nation\u2019s first-of-its-kind plan to introduce the AI working competency requirement for undergraduates in Indianapolis and West Lafayette, starting with new students this fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another key aspect called for all of Purdue\u2019s academic units to establish standing industry advisory boards designed to regularly focus on employers\u2019 AI competency needs. This element would help ensure a continual, annual refresh of the university\u2019s AI curriculum and competency requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhile not surprisingly, given how highly they rate with employers,\u201d Forbes said the \u201cNew Ivies\u201d schools \u201care all rushing to prepare their students and adapt their curriculum, in a variety of ways \u2014&nbsp;and across all disciplines.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last year\u2019s Forbes&nbsp;\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/emmawhitford\/2025\/03\/26\/the-new-ivies-2025-20-great-colleges-employers-love\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New Ivies 2025: 20 Great Colleges Employers Love<\/a>\u201d&nbsp;ranking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/2025\/Q1\/purdue-named-a-new-ivy-in-forbes-ranking\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">listed Purdue<\/a> among the 10 public and 10 private institutions that are \u201coutpacing the Ivy League in the eyes of employers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About Purdue University<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Purdue University is a public research university leading with excellence at scale.
