{"id":20907,"date":"2026-04-08T12:08:49","date_gmt":"2026-04-08T16:08:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/?p=20907"},"modified":"2026-04-08T13:36:46","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T17:36:46","slug":"12-purdue-graduate-programs-ranked-in-top-10-in-u-s-news-world-report-2026-list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/2026\/Q2\/12-purdue-graduate-programs-ranked-in-top-10-in-u-s-news-world-report-2026-list","title":{"rendered":"12 Purdue graduate programs ranked in top 10 in U.S. News &amp; World Report 2026 lists"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. \u2014 Purdue University\u2019s pursuit of research excellence at scale continues, with 12 academic programs in engineering, agriculture and health ranking in the top 10 overall in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/best-graduate-schools\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">U.S. News &amp; World Report\u2019s 2026 edition of Best Graduate Schools<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Purdue\u2019s College of Engineering jumped to No. 4 overall among nearly 200 engineering schools ranked in the U.S., behind only MIT, Stanford and University of California, Berkeley, and No. 2 among the nation\u2019s public institutions. Three engineering disciplines retained their standing in the top 5 nationally while eight programs were among the top 10 in the U.S., according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/best-graduate-schools\/top-graduate-schools\/purdue-university-main-campus-243780\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report released Tuesday<\/a> (April 7).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur efforts to strengthen Purdue\u2019s research impact and scholarly excellence continue to bear fruit, thanks to the continued hard work and focus of our faculty, staff and researchers,\u201d said Purdue Provost Patrick Wolfe. \u201cParticularly in the core STEM strengths for which Purdue is so well known, we see consistent success in nurturing top-talent graduates and scholars across engineering, agriculture, health, computing and business. This in turn helps us to recruit even more top-flight faculty and graduate students across these broad areas of strength.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Purdue\u2019s agricultural and biological engineering graduate program, jointly led by the colleges of Agriculture and Engineering, remained No. 1 for a sixth consecutive year. The university\u2019s speech, language and hearing sciences program in the College of Health and Human Sciences (HHS) remained among the nation\u2019s best at No. 3 overall, and the audiology program in HHS was No. 6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Purdue\u2019s pharmacy program also remained in the top 10, tied at No. 8 overall and jumping one spot from its 2024 placing when that specialty program was last ranked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Industrial engineering, meanwhile, was No. 4, and aeronautics and astronautics retained its No. 5 ranking. Purdue\u2019s biomedical engineering program also remained at its decade-high No. 5 among institutions without a medical school or jointly administered BME program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The highlights of Purdue\u2019s graduate engineering programs and their rankings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Agricultural and biological engineering: No. 1<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Industrial engineering: No. 4 \u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aeronautics and astronautics: No. 5 \u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Civil engineering: No. 7<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mechanical engineering: No. 8<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Electrical engineering: No. 8 (up one spot) \u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Computer engineering: No. 9\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nuclear engineering: No. 10\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Environmental engineering: No. 11<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Materials engineering: No. 11 (up one spot)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chemical engineering: No. 14<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Biomedical engineering: No. 5 among institutions without a medical school or jointly administered BME program, No. 25 overall\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Purdue\u2019s strategic initiatives once again made a particularly strong showing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Driving the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/computes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Purdue Computes strategic initiative<\/strong><\/a>, computer engineering was ranked among the nation\u2019s top 10, and Purdue\u2019s Department of Computer Science, shared jointly between the colleges of Science and Engineering, also stood out in specialty areas among more than 200 institutions:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Computer systems: No. 13<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Programming language: No. 14<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Computer science: No. 15<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Artificial intelligence: No. 20 (up three spots)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The reimagined&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/business.purdue.edu\/about\/home.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Mitch Daniels School of Business<\/strong><\/a>, which has seen strong enrollment demand for its undergraduate and online graduate programs, also continued its upward trajectory, with its specialty disciplines posting strong rankings in the survey of over 500 U.S. institutions with master\u2019s level business programs. The highlights:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Business analytics: No. 18\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Production operations: No. 18<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supply chain management\/logistics: No. 22<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Aligned with Purdue\u2019s comprehensive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/onehealth\/\">One Health<\/a> initiative, two HHS programs continued their strong showings, remaining in the top 10 overall in the graduate rankings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Speech, language and hearing sciences: No. 3<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Audiology: No. 6<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Master\u2019s in nursing: No. 22 (up one spot)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Construction is underway on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/2023\/Q3\/purdue-trustees-approve-new-nursing-and-pharmacy-education-building-series-of-repair-and-rehabilitation-projects\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$160 million Nursing and Pharmacy Education Building<\/a>, a transformative 186,000-square-foot facility at the West Lafayette location that will continue to accelerate key One Health programs.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Arvind Raman, the John A. Edwardson Dean of the College of Engineering, said factors propelling Engineering\u2019s latest rankings success include increasingly selective doctoral admissions, increased peer reputation and higher per capita research expenditures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPurdue Engineering\u2019s 2026 research and graduate engineering rankings take us to the next level of excellence in achieving Vision 2030, particularly in elevating research impact,\u201d Raman said. \u201cI am tremendously proud of our faculty, staff, students, alumni and industry partners who have achieved these milestones in a highly competitive and rapidly changing research landscape.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The U.S. News &amp; World Report\u2019s Best Graduate Schools rankings for 2026 are based on two types of data: expert opinion about program excellence and statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school\u2019s faculty, research and students, and students\u2019 postgraduate outcomes.&nbsp;Data for the&nbsp;overall&nbsp;rankings in the six&nbsp;primary&nbsp;disciplines \u2014&nbsp;business, education, engineering, law,&nbsp;medicine&nbsp;and nursing \u2014\u202fcame from statistical surveys and peer assessment surveys sent to academics and professionals in respective fields, conducted in fall 2025&nbsp;and early 2026.
