Purdue Silicon Summit further accelerates momentum with announcements and brings national, global semiconductor leaders to campus<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Purdue University is hosting the 2023 Purdue Silicon Summit, which started Oct. 17 and continues through Oct. 25. Semiconductor industry leaders are converging on the West Lafayette campus for partnership meetings, lectures and conferences as well as major announcements on Chips@Purdue semiconductor research, education and industry collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Purdue names new pediatric cancer research center for the late Tyler Trent<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

More than four years after Tyler Trent\u2019s passing from the rare bone cancer osteosarcoma, Purdue University is ensuring that the memory of the former graduate and devoted Boilermaker football fan will live on through research to cure his disease and other pediatric cancers. On Oct. 14, during an early timeout in Purdue\u2019s Hammer Down Cancer football game against Ohio State University, Kelly and Tony Trent, Tyler\u2019s parents, helped announce the establishment of Purdue\u2019s new Tyler Trent Pediatric Cancer Research Center within the Purdue Institute for Cancer Research<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Purdue, IU to collaborate on analysis of Indiana\u2019s $500 million economic development efforts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Purdue Center for Regional Development, as part of the Office of Engagement, and the Indiana University Public Policy Institute will collaborate on a multiyear project to examine the economic and community impact of Indiana\u2019s nationally recognized, $500 million Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative. Launched by Gov. Eric Holcomb, the READI program has awarded more than $487 million of the initiative\u2019s original $500 million to accelerate strategic investments in 17 regions that represent all 92 Indiana counties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Signatures of the Space Age: Spacecraft metals left in the wake of humanity\u2019s path to the stars<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Space Age is leaving fingerprints on one of the most remote parts of the planet \u2014 the stratosphere \u2014 which has potential implications for climate, the ozone layer and the continued habitability of Earth. Dan Cziczo, professor and head of the Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences in Purdue\u2019s College of Science, was part of the research team that discovered significant amounts of metals in aerosols in the atmosphere, likely from increasingly frequent launches and returns of spacecraft and satellites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Purdue Expert video: Broadband Infrastructure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Roberto Gallardo, the director of the Purdue Center of Regional Development, explains how there are many areas of the country that either don\u2019t have access to the internet or are unable to afford it. Federal funds from the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program will expand internet access in the state of Indiana and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
