The event is free and open to the public, but a ticket is required. For tickets and more information, go <a href=\"https:\/\/am.ticketmaster.com\/purdue\/buy\/pls0226\">here<\/a>. The Purdue Convocations <a href=\"https:\/\/convocations.purdue.edu\/policies\/\">bag policy<\/a> will be in effect for this event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Light refreshments will be provided to ticket holders beginning at 5:15 p.m. in the nearby Ringel Gallery. Fowler doors will open at 5:30 p.m. A commemorative gift will be given to departing Presidential Lecture Series attendees as part of Purdue\u2019s America250 celebration. His three documentary films \u2014 \u201cThe Creation of the Universe,\u201d \u201cLife Beyond Earth\u201d and \u201cSeeing in the Dark\u201d \u2014 premiered in prime time on PBS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ferris produced the Voyager phonograph record, an artifact of human civilization containing music, sounds of Earth and encoded photographs launched aboard the twin Voyager interstellar spacecraft now exiting the solar system. He also was among the journalists selected as candidates to fly aboard the space shuttle in 1986.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A former newspaper reporter and editor of Rolling Stone magazine, Ferris has written over 200 articles and essays for major publications. He also edited the anthologies \u201cBest American Science Writing 2001\u201d and the \u201cWorld Treasury of Physics, Astronomy, and Mathematics.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Called \u201cthe best popular science writer in the English language\u201d by Christian Science Monitor, Ferris has received the American Institute of Physics\u2019 science-writing prize and a Guggenheim Fellowship, and his works have been nominated for the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Ferris has taught in five disciplines \u2014 astronomy, English, history, journalism and philosophy \u2014 at four universities.
