{"id":1778,"date":"2023-11-27T18:03:00","date_gmt":"2023-11-27T18:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/?p=1778"},"modified":"2024-06-28T13:15:22","modified_gmt":"2024-06-28T13:15:22","slug":"study-hair-care-product-chemicals-can-linger-in-the-air-in-surprising-amounts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/2023\/Q4\/study-hair-care-product-chemicals-can-linger-in-the-air-in-surprising-amounts","title":{"rendered":"Study: Hair care product chemicals can linger in the air in surprising amounts"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"purdue-initial-words-wrap\"><p class=\"purdue-initial-words\">WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. &mdash;<\/p> \n<p>The average morning routine for many Americans includes inhaling several milligrams of chemicals that may be harmful to their health, Purdue University researchers have found.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>In a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/pubs.acs.org\/doi\/10.1021\/acs.est.3c05156\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">newly published paper<\/a>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<em>Environmental Science &amp; Technology<\/em>, a journal of the American Chemical Society, Nusrat Jung, an assistant professor in the Lyles School of Civil Engineering, discovered that several chemicals, particularly cyclic volatile methyl siloxanes \u2014 which are ubiquitous in hair care products \u2014 linger in the air after use.
