{"id":1752,"date":"2023-02-03T16:13:00","date_gmt":"2023-02-03T16:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/?p=1752"},"modified":"2024-06-06T16:15:13","modified_gmt":"2024-06-06T16:15:13","slug":"purdue-trustees-endorse-12th-consecutive-tuition-freeze","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/2023\/Q1\/purdue-trustees-endorse-12th-consecutive-tuition-freeze","title":{"rendered":"Purdue trustees endorse 12th consecutive tuition freeze"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"purdue-initial-words-wrap\"><p class=\"purdue-initial-words\">WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. &mdash;<\/p> \n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Purdue University<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/bot\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Board of Trustees<\/a>&nbsp;on Friday (Feb. 3) endorsed&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/president\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">President Mung Chiang<\/a>\u2019s request for a 12th consecutive tuition freeze, meaning students will see no increase in tuition through at least the 2024-25 academic year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>To be formally approved by the trustees in late spring per state statute, after the legislative budget setting, base undergraduate tuition at Purdue West Lafayette will remain at $9,992 per year for Indiana residents and $28,794 for out-of-state students through 2024-25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The total cost of attending Purdue continues to be less today than in 2012, with tuition held flat and lower room and board rates. The tuition freeze saves students over $150 million per year for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/releases\/2022\/Q2\/a-decade-of-affordability-purdue-leads-the-way,-saving-students-and-families-1-billion.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a cumulative total of over a billion dollars<\/a>, compared to if Purdue had instituted annual increases at the Big Ten average, and debt per undergraduate student has declined 36% since 2012. By 2024-25, 10 graduating classes will have never experienced a tuition increase during their time at Purdue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time, more students than ever are seeking a Purdue degree \u2013 more than 71,000 applied for admission for Fall 2023 \u2013 and more employers than ever are seeking out Purdue graduates. Last fall,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/releases\/2022\/Q3\/purdue-sets-all-time-student-enrollment-record-in-west-lafayette.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">total enrollment reached a record 50,884 students<\/a>&nbsp;and marked the university\u2019s eighth straight record high. That total includes 37,949 undergrads \u2013 also a record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPurdue remains committed to the vision of higher education with the highest proven value,\u201d Chiang said. \u201cThis proposal of another year of tuition freeze, and the endorsement by the Board of Trustees, continues Purdue\u2019s national leadership in student access and success.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the growing number of applicants for enrollment from across the country, evidence of Purdue\u2019s enhanced national profile include being the only university named a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/releases\/2022\/Q4\/fast-company-chooses-purdue-university-as-a-brand-that-matters-for-second-year-in-a-row.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cBrand That Matters\u201d by Fast Company&nbsp;<\/a>magazine in both 2021 and 2022, a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/releases\/2022\/Q3\/purdue-ranked-no.-4-most-trusted-public-university-in-the-u.s..html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">No. 4 ranking as the most trusted public university&nbsp;in the country<\/a>&nbsp;and a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/releases\/2022\/Q3\/purdues-firm-commitment-to-free-speech-shows-in-latest-ranking.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">top 3 ranking&nbsp;<\/a>as a university that protects free speech and open inquiry.
