Mohammad Jahanshahi, CEO and founder, said the company\u2019s solution builds on more than a decade of research and development, using a data collection system that can be implemented for only a few thousand dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur patent-pending platform uses advanced computer vision algorithms to assess pavement conditions quickly and objectively,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PaveX\u2019s platform improves upon traditional assessment methods in several ways:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reduced cost because there is no need for specialized vehicles or expensive sensors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improved consistency because artificial intelligence ensures standardized and repeatable assessments<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increased speed because roads can be assessed in a fraction of the time<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLocal governments can implement the PaveX system with minimal training and equipment, which leads to enhanced accessibility,\u201d Jahanshahi said. \u201cThey receive actionable insights without the need for in-house data analysis expertise, all while eliminating costly hardware in favor of inexpensive advanced sensors that speed up data collection.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" src=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Mohammad-Jahanshahi.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17460\" style=\"object-fit:cover;width:300px;height:169px\" title=\"\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Mohammad Jahanshahi, founder and CEO of PaveX and associate professor in Purdue University\u2019s College of Engineering. (Purdue University photo\/Kevin Crisp)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.purdue.edu\/CCE\/People\/ptProfile?resource_id=113437\">Jahanshahi<\/a> is an associate professor in Purdue\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.purdue.edu\/CCE\">Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering<\/a> with a courtesy appointment in the <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.purdue.edu\/ECE\">Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering<\/a>. He developed the AI platform and disclosed it to the Purdue Innovates Office of Technology Commercialization, which applied for a patent to protect the intellectual property and granted PaveX the exclusive license to commercialize the technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Future applications and next milestones<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Jahanshahi and his team have been actively engaged in pavement assessment training initiatives led by the Indiana Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) and are eager to implement these strategies in practical, real-world settings. Indiana LTAP is optimistic about the potential of emerging technologies, such as PaveX, to enhance transportation asset management.
