{"id":17351,"date":"2025-09-23T08:27:31","date_gmt":"2025-09-23T12:27:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/?p=17351"},"modified":"2025-09-23T09:13:41","modified_gmt":"2025-09-23T13:13:41","slug":"purdue-ranked-no-1-public-university-in-indiana-20-undergraduate-programs-among-top-20-in-u-s","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/2025\/Q3\/purdue-ranked-no-1-public-university-in-indiana-20-undergraduate-programs-among-top-20-in-u-s","title":{"rendered":"Purdue ranked No. 1 public university in Indiana; 20 undergraduate programs among top 20 in U.S.\u202f\u202f\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. \u2014 Purdue University remains the highest-ranked public university in Indiana and, for the third straight year, places as the state\u2019s only public institution among the nation\u2019s top 50, according to U.S. News &amp; World Report\u2019s 2026 Best Colleges rankings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the annual ranking focusing primarily on undergraduate programs, Purdue tied at No. 46 among more than 400 universities, the same as last year, according to the results released Tuesday (Sept. 23).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Purdue rose to sixth overall for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opp.purdue.edu\/\">co-op and internship opportunities<\/a> \u2014 its highest level ever in this key career-path category and continuing a seven-year run as a top three university among publics. Purdue improved to No. 17 for learning communities and tied for No. 19 in the service-learning category. Purdue ranked as the No. 26 best college for veterans. Purdue also garnered a No. 23 ranking for the percentage of faculty who are full time and a No. 29 standing for graduates\u2019 earnings potential, a strong marker that underscores the value of a Purdue degree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPurdue\u2019s strongest programs of research, scholarship and teaching continue to grow even stronger,\u201d said Purdue Provost Patrick Wolfe. \u201cSeveral of our strategic priority areas spanning STEM and business \u2014 together encompassing nearly three-quarters of our undergraduate students \u2014 made noteworthy climbs in this year\u2019s rankings.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the subject rankings of undergraduate programs, Purdue has 20 programs ranked among the top 20 in the country. Purdue\u2019s acclaimed <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.purdue.edu\/Engr\">College of Engineering<\/a> maintained its No. 8 nationwide undergraduate placement. Nine of Purdue\u2019s engineering schools ranked among the top 10 overall nationally:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Industrial engineering: No. 2<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aeronautics and astronautics: No. 3<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Civil engineering: No. 3<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Agricultural and biological engineering: No. 4<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mechanical engineering: No. 8<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Computer engineering: No. 9 (up one spot)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Electrical engineering: No. 10 (up one spot)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Environmental engineering: No. 10 (up two spots)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Materials engineering: No. 10<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chemical engineering: No. 14<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Biomedical engineering: No. 23 (No. 5 among colleges without a medical school)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Purdue Computes and the Mitch Daniels School of Business, both among the university\u2019s strategic initiatives, have their strengths reflected in the undergraduate program rankings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Purdue\u2019s Department of Computer Science \u2014 which is shared between the colleges of Science and Engineering \u2014 ranked No. 16, with several programs also earning top 20 rankings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cybersecurity: No. 4 (up two spots)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Software engineering: No. 8 (up two spots)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Artificial intelligence: No. 18 (up two spots)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Daniels School \u2014 which offers a STEM-infused, future-focused business education and research across nine new departments \u2014 rose three spots to No. 24 for undergraduate business programs, led by two top 10 programs. The school also had five programs in the top 20:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Operations management: No. 4 (up one spot)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supply chain management\/logistics: No. 9 (up one spot)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quantitative analysis: No. 11<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Analytics: No. 12<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Management information systems: No. 20<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">U.S. News &amp; World Report\u2019s Best Colleges rankings are calculated by using 17 key indicators to measure academic quality and graduate success.
