Corley Distinguished Professor of Chemistry in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/science\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">College of Science<\/a>, will deliver the address at Purdue\u2019s two summer commencement <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/commencement\/\">ceremonies<\/a> Aug. 9 at Elliott Hall of Music.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-medium\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"240\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/2508-low-philip-240x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16325\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/2508-low-philip-240x300.jpg 240w, https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/2508-low-philip.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Philip Low <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Low (rhymes with \u201cnow\u201d) is a prolific innovator, holding 101 U.S.-issued patents through the&nbsp;Purdue Innovates Office of Technology Commercialization. He has co-founded seven companies to bring his discoveries to market and recently formed and funded the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/2025\/Q2\/blazing-a-new-trail-for-early-stage-innovation-purdue-announces-creation-of-low-institute-for-therapeutics-lift-through-a-generous-gift-by-phil-low\/\">Low Institute for Therapeutics<\/a> to accelerate the transfer of his laboratory\u2019s most promising discoveries into human use. He also serves as a faculty member in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/discoverypark\/drug-discovery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Purdue Institute for Drug Discovery<\/a>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/cancer-research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Purdue Institute for Cancer Research<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In recognition of his groundbreaking contributions to human health, Low has received numerous prestigious honors, including the Outstanding Achievement in Chemistry in Cancer Research award from the American Association for Cancer Research, the George and Christine Sosnovsky Award for Cancer Research and the Gustavus John Esselen Award for Chemistry in the Public Interest from the American Chemical Society, the Legacy Award from the American Lung Association, and a MERIT Award from the National Institutes of Health. For his vital work at Purdue, he was also awarded the Order of the Griffin, one of the university\u2019s highest honors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Low earned a BS in chemistry from Brigham Young University in 1971 and a PhD in biochemistry from the University of California, San Diego, in 1975.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Commencement division dates and times<strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The summer 2025 ceremonies will recognize the achievements of 1,725 graduates, including 612 undergraduates, 1,104 graduate students and nine students from Purdue Polytechnic Institute\u2019s statewide programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Purdue President Mung Chiang will attend both ceremonies, and each ceremony will feature a student responder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Division I: Saturday, Aug. 9, 9:30 a.m. \u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>College of Agriculture<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>College of Education<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>College of Engineering<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>College of Veterinary Medicine<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mitch Daniels School of Business<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Joint and special programs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Division II: Saturday, Aug. 9, 2:30 p.m. \u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>College of Health and Human Sciences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>College of Liberal Arts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>College of Pharmacy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>College of Science<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Purdue Polytechnic Institute<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Admission tickets required<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Doors to Elliott Hall of Music will open 90 minutes before each ceremony, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/commencement\/tickets\/Tickets.html\">tickets<\/a> are required for entry. Each graduation candidate may request up to four tickets. Only clear bags or small clutch bags are permitted in Elliott Hall, and all bags will be checked. While at Purdue,&nbsp;she served as&nbsp;director of marketing&nbsp;for the Purdue Marketing Association and was a dedicated member of Purdue Musical Organizations\u2019&nbsp;Heart &amp; Soul choir. She gained valuable professional experience through internships at&nbsp;The Dauch Center; JPMorgan Chase&nbsp;in Columbus, Ohio; and the Office of the President Pro Tempore, Rodric Bray, in the&nbsp;Indiana State Senate. After graduation, Hickman will attend the&nbsp;Indiana University Robert H. Park served as\u00a0director of Computing Challenge Day 2024, a\u00a0student representative\u00a0on the Faculty Teaching Award Committee, and was a\u00a0board member and webmaster\u00a0for Purdue Information Technology Professionals. He was a\u00a0teaching assistant\u00a0for various computer and information technology courses and volunteered as a\u00a0student facilitator\u00a0for Civic Engagement and Leadership Development\u2019s service day.
