Mike Braun and Indiana Department of Education Secretary Katie Jenner hosted U.S. Department of Education Secretary Linda McMahon\u2019s visit to the state, including a trip to Purdue\u2019s nuclear reactor research lab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The visit included a tour of Purdue\u2019s Nuclear Engineering Building and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/2025\/Q2\/at-indianas-only-nuclear-reactor-engineers-conduct-the-first-experiments-of-their-kind-in-the-u-s\/\">Purdue University Reactor Number One<\/a> (PUR-1) and its digital nuclear control and AI systems with Purdue students, faculty and staff. PUR-1 is the first and only nuclear reactor in the U.S. licensed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to operate a fully digital instrumentation and control system.
