{"id":14484,"date":"2025-04-08T09:27:09","date_gmt":"2025-04-08T13:27:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/?p=14484"},"modified":"2025-04-08T10:12:20","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T14:12:20","slug":"purdue-graduate-programs-in-engineering-business-and-health-again-rank-among-the-nations-finest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/2025\/Q2\/purdue-graduate-programs-in-engineering-business-and-health-again-rank-among-the-nations-finest","title":{"rendered":"Purdue graduate programs in engineering, business and health again rank among the nation\u2019s finest"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. \u2014 Purdue University continues to elevate its graduate learning and research efforts across multiple disciplines, placing 12&nbsp;academic programs in the top 10 of the U.S. News &amp; World Report\u2019s 2025 edition of its best graduate school rankings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Purdue\u2019s engineering college jumped one spot to No. 5 (tied with Caltech) in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/info\/blogs\/press-room\/articles\/2025-04-08\/u-s-news-announces-2025-best-graduate-schools\">U.S. News survey<\/a> released Tuesday (April 8), with five engineering disciplines surging into the top five and 10 among the top 10 in the U.S. among more than 220 public and private engineering schools ranked. Purdue also is the leading engineering program in the 18-member Big Ten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Purdue\u2019s agricultural and biological engineering graduate program, jointly led by the colleges of Agriculture and Engineering, earned a No. 1 ranking for a fifth consecutive year. Industrial engineering jumped to No. 3 overall, its highest ranking since 2004. And biomedical engineering rocketed to No. 5 among colleges without a medical school, its highest level in a decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPurdue has made strides not only across our traditional areas of core STEM strength, with engineering a particular standout,\u201d said Purdue Provost Patrick Wolfe, \u201cbut also across our declared strategic initiatives in computing and AI; in business; and in human, animal and plant health.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A breakdown of Purdue\u2019s top graduate engineering programs is as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Agricultural and biological engineering: No. 1<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Industrial engineering: No. 3 (its highest mark in two decades)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aeronautics and astronautics: No. 5 &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Civil engineering: No. 5&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Biomedical engineering: No. 5 (among institutions without medical programs or a jointly administered BME program with a medical school) and No. 24 overall<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mechanical engineering: No. 7 (its highest mark in 17 years)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Electrical engineering: No. 9&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Computer engineering: No. 9&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Environmental engineering: No. 10<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nuclear engineering: No. 10&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Materials engineering: No. 12 (unchanged)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chemical engineering: No. 14 (up two spots)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Purdue\u2019s strategic initiatives made a particularly strong showing in this year\u2019s rankings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Driving the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/computes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Purdue Computes initiative<\/strong><\/a>, shared jointly between the colleges of Science and Engineering, Purdue\u2019s Department of Computer Science stood out in specialty areas among more than 200 institutions:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Programming language: No. 13&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Computer systems: No. 13<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Artificial intelligence: No. 23&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The reimagined&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/business.purdue.edu\/about\/home.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Mitch Daniels School of Business<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;also continued its upward trajectory as specialty areas posted strong rankings in the survey of over 500 U.S. institutions with master\u2019s level business programs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Production operations: No. 6<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supply chain management: No. 11<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Business analytics: No. 16&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Aligned with the university\u2019s comprehensive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/onehealth\/\">One Health<\/a> initiative, Purdue\u2019s speech-language pathology program continues to rank among the nation\u2019s best, maintaining its No. 2 spot. The program, a part of the College of Health and Human Sciences, prepares clinicians to provide solutions to a range of communication and swallowing disorders that have major effects on individuals\u2019 health and well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Purdue also had strong showings in additional health-related graduate programs, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Audiology: No. 5&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Master\u2019s in nursing: No. 23\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Doctor of Nursing Practice: No. 25<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Construction is underway on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/2023\/Q3\/purdue-trustees-approve-new-nursing-and-pharmacy-education-building-series-of-repair-and-rehabilitation-projects\/\">$160 million Nursing and Pharmacy Education Building<\/a>, a transformative 186,000-square-foot facility on the West Lafayette campus that will continue to accelerate key One Health programs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPurdue\u2019s rankings reflect and affirm why the 160-plus graduate programs in West Lafayette and Indianapolis continue to attract top-tier graduate and professional students as well as postdoctoral scholars to our institution in pursuit of scholarly excellence and impactful research opportunities,\u201d said Haley Oliver, vice provost for the Office of the Vice Provost for Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Scholars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Data for the rankings in the six primary disciplines \u2014 business, education, engineering, law, medicine and nursing \u2014&nbsp;came from statistical surveys and peer assessment surveys sent to academics and professionals in respective fields, conducted in fall 2024 and early 2025.
