{"id":14416,"date":"2025-04-04T04:27:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-04T08:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/?p=14416"},"modified":"2025-04-28T14:56:44","modified_gmt":"2025-04-28T18:56:44","slug":"enhanced-commercial-air-service-coming-to-purdue-university-airport-with-united-express-flights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/2025\/Q2\/enhanced-commercial-air-service-coming-to-purdue-university-airport-with-united-express-flights","title":{"rendered":"Enhanced commercial air service coming to Purdue University Airport with United Express flights"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. \u2014 In a significant step forward in its commitment to support <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/\">Purdue University<\/a>\u2019s operational needs through improved travel options, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/bot\/\">Board of Trustees<\/a> on Friday (April 4) approved a two-year transportation services agreement with SkyWest Airlines for commercial air service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the agreement, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skywest.com\/\">SkyWest Airlines<\/a> will maintain at least one daily nonstop United Express round-trip flight between West Lafayette\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/airport\/\">Purdue University Airport<\/a> (LAF) and Chicago\u2019s O\u2019Hare International Airport (ORD). The flights will be onboard CRJ200 twin-engine jets, with capacity for 50 passengers per flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new United Express flights will allow travelers access to United Airlines\u2019 global network, extensive infrastructure and impressive customer service. Travelers will have the ability to book flights directly via the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.united.com\/en\/us\/\">United Airlines website<\/a>, which provides a seamless, user-friendly booking process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n    <div  class=\"purdue-home-quick-links-static \">\n        <div class=\"tagged-header-container\">\n\n            <h2 class=\"tagged-header\"><span>ADDITIONAL INFORMATION<\/span><\/h2>\n        \n        <\/div>\n\n       <ul class=\"quick-links-content\">\n                                        <li class=\"quick-link__item\">\n                                                                <a class=\"quick-link__link\"\n                                    href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/airport\/frequently-asked-questions\/#united\" target=\"_blank\">\n                                    Frequently Asked Questions                                <\/a>\n                            <\/li>\n                            <\/ul>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re excited to bring this new United Express route to Purdue University Airport,\u201d said Cody Thomas, managing director of market development for SkyWest Airlines. \u201cWe know how important it is for travelers to access quality air service, and the new flights will allow them to more easily connect to the hundreds of destinations on United\u2019s global network.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The agreement is bolstered by the August opening of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/2024\/Q1\/new-terminal-at-purdue-university-airport-to-be-named-for-amelia-earhart\/\">Amelia Earhart Terminal<\/a> at Purdue Airport. The approximately 9,400-square-foot building will provide increased capacity and advanced facilities to accommodate the expanded flight offerings and larger aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Travelers will be able to begin booking the new United Express flights late on Thursday (April 10), with the first flight scheduled for Aug. 5, the same day the Amelia Earhart Terminal is scheduled to open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re pleased to partner with SkyWest and excited for the enhancements they\u2019ll provide for Purdue and the surrounding community,\u201d said Jessica Robertson, Purdue associate vice president for auxiliary services. \u201cThe new agreement not only addresses immediate operational needs but also positions the university for future growth in flight options and destinations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Commercial flights at Purdue Airport further Purdue President Mung Chiang\u2019s ABCD service to the community, the state and the country, in which the \u201cA\u201d stands for \u201cairport\u201d and aims to provide the university\u2019s students, faculty, staff and families, as well as residents and businesses in Greater Lafayette, with easier, faster connections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About SkyWest<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>SkyWest Airlines operates through partnerships with United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines and Alaska Airlines, carrying over 42 million passengers in 2024.
