2024: A Boilermaker Year in Review<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Purdue University broke new records in almost all dimensions of student admissions and success, research and innovation, finance and philanthropy, infrastructure and partnerships, rankings and visibility in fiscal year 2024 that concluded in June. Then the second half of 2024 saw the opening of the first urban expansion of Purdue\u2019s main campus, growth of the Daniels School of Business, major wins in Purdue Computes research and industry partnership, and the launch of the One Health initiative. Here are a couple of memorable Boilermaker moments from each month of 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dean updates trustees on Daniels School of Business; board approves department restructuring<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Jim Bullard, the Dr. Samuel R. Allen Dean of the Mitch Daniels School of Business, provided an update<\/a> to the Purdue University Board of Trustees<\/a> Dec. 13. Bullard reinforced that the Daniels School is prioritized on five foundational pillars: academic prowess, integration of STEM and business, transformational student experience, free market and capitalism, and business partnerships. Construction started in September on a new 164,000-square-foot Daniels School facility. The student-centered project<\/a> includes large classroom spaces that will be open to units across campus while creating a culture of collaboration and discovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Purdue remains No. 1 for second year in Healthiest Employers of Indiana<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For the second year in a row, Purdue University has received first-place recognition in the 2024 Healthiest Employers of Indiana<\/a>, an awards program created to honor people-first organizations that prioritize the well-being of their employee population. Purdue competes in the 5,000+ Employees category, which is the largest of the competition. Companies were recognized because of their commitment to workplace wellness and their exceptional health and benefits offerings. Increased flexibility, work-life balance and mental health resources have proven to be common trends among Healthiest Employers honorees, especially post-pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AP video \u2014 Winter tips to prevent senior falls and fractures<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Joey Wallace, a Purdue professor of biomedical engineering and associate vice president for research development in Indianapolis, explains how bones are impacted by falls and why older people should be especially careful during winter weather. Wallace says the elderly are more vulnerable to bone fractures from falling for a number of different reasons. Younger bodies are designed to prevent and repair damage done to bones. As people age, the soft tissues in their bodies aren\u2019t able to absorb as much energy from an impact, leading to higher rates of bone failure in the elderly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

National Academy of Inventors names two Purdue faculty as 2024 fellows<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Two Purdue University faculty members, representing the College of Engineering and the College of Science, have been named fellows of the National Academy of Inventors<\/a>, the organization announced Dec. 10. The 2024 fellow class<\/a> represents 170 research universities and governmental and nonprofit research institutions worldwide. Edward Delp<\/a>, the Charles William Harrison Distinguished Professor in the Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering and professor of biomedical engineering, and Arun Ghosh<\/a>, the Ian P. Rothwell Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and professor of medicinal chemistry and molecular pharmacology, will be inducted during NAI\u2019s 14th annual meeting in June 2025 in Atlanta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
