{"id":11530,"date":"2024-12-03T09:43:21","date_gmt":"2024-12-03T14:43:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/?p=11530"},"modified":"2024-12-03T11:17:32","modified_gmt":"2024-12-03T16:17:32","slug":"participants-in-the-purdue-ukrainian-scholars-initiative-to-be-featured-in-annual-panel-discussion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/2024\/Q4\/participants-in-the-purdue-ukrainian-scholars-initiative-to-be-featured-in-annual-panel-discussion","title":{"rendered":"Participants in the Purdue Ukrainian Scholars Initiative to be featured in annual panel discussion"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. \u2014 A panel discussion led by Vijay Raghunathan, vice president for global partnerships and programs, at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 10), will feature four participants in the Purdue Ukrainian Scholars Initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The hourlong event, which is free and open to the public (<a href=\"https:\/\/purdue.ca1.qualtrics.com\/jfe\/form\/SV_51OTbo1dVw5SkrY\">registration required<\/a>), will be in the East Faculty Lounge, on the Purdue Memorial Union\u2019s second floor. The discussion will include a brief overview of the Purdue Ukrainian Scholars Initiative, created in March 2022 to help faculty and PhD students whose academic pursuits have been derailed since the Russian invasion. This year Purdue hosts 15 scholars, who are continuing their research here. Purdue\u2019s program is one of the first and largest of similar university-led programs in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Panelists from the Ukrainian Scholars Initiative set to join Raghunathan are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Oksana Karbashevska, a visiting scholar in the School of Languages and Cultures in the <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.purdue.edu\/Engr\">College of L<\/a>iberal Arts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Viktor Orekhivskyi, a visiting scholar in the Department of Agricultural Economics in the College of Agriculture<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mariya Tkachivska, a visiting scholar in the&nbsp;Department of History&nbsp;in the&nbsp;College of Liberal Arts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Valeriia Yatsenko, a lecturer in the Department of Management in the Mitch Daniels School of Business<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe Purdue Ukrainian Scholars Initiative is a testament to our commitment to supporting academic freedom and fostering resilience in the face of adversity,\u201d Raghunathan said. \u201cThese scholars have brought extraordinary expertise and perspectives to our campus, enriching our academic community while strengthening the innovation ecosystem here in the United States.
