{"id":10720,"date":"2024-10-29T11:21:44","date_gmt":"2024-10-29T15:21:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/?p=10720"},"modified":"2024-10-29T11:21:45","modified_gmt":"2024-10-29T15:21:45","slug":"purdue-google-will-gather-business-education-and-government-leaders-to-explore-the-power-of-ai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/2024\/Q4\/purdue-google-will-gather-business-education-and-government-leaders-to-explore-the-power-of-ai","title":{"rendered":"Purdue, Google will gather business, education and government leaders to explore the power of AI"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. \u2014 No emerging technology holds more promise \u2014 or raises more questions \u2014 than artificial intelligence, which is accelerating a world that moves fast to move even faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How humans might harness this technology, stabilize its growth, maximize the benefits and minimize the risks to truly leverage AI\u2019s potential is the focus of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/events\/ai-summit\/?utm_source=purdue_news&amp;utm_medium=pressrelease&amp;utm_campaign=ai_summit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">inaugural Purdue\/Google AI Summit<\/a>, set to take place in Indianapolis on Nov. 14.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With \u201cThe AI Imperative: Uniting Education, Business and Government,\u201d Purdue University and Google will bring together leading representatives from business and industry, government and nonprofits, as well as university researchers and students, to explore the evolving landscape of AI and its profound impact on workforce development and education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speakers and panelists at the full-day event will address topics ranging from the transformative effects of AI on the workplace as it reshapes job roles, to a reimagining of higher education driven by AI-powered systems that are transforming the way we teach, learn and research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other topics on the agenda include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The role of state and federal governments in addressing AI\u2019s broad societal effects<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How AI is driving watershed change in fields across many sectors \u2014 agriculture, manufacturing, supply chain and beyond<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>AI\u2019s potential to break down barriers to economic advancement and revolutionize education and workforce opportunities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>AI ethics, privacy and policy \u2014 exploring pressing concerns surrounding AI adoption, among them job displacement, bias, transparency, equitable access and the dynamics of human-AI collaboration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith the diversity of topics and speakers we have for this event, we believe attendees will come away with a deeper understanding of AI\u2019s impact on their lives, their organizations and society,\u201d said Dimitrios Peroulis, Purdue\u2019s senior vice president for partnerships and online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGoogle is excited to partner with Purdue University to host an event focused on the transformative power of responsible AI,\u201d said Chris Daugherty, education strategy lead at Google Cloud. \u201cBy bringing together experts from private and public sectors, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of AI\u2019s power to enhance educational experiences, increase workforce productivity and drive innovation to improve society overall.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Featured speakers at the event will be Purdue President Mung Chiang; Malcolm \u201cMK\u201d Palmore, director of the Office of the Chief Information Security Officer at Google Cloud; and Scott Dorsey, managing partner of technology venture firm High Alpha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A global leader in the cybersecurity field, Google Cloud\u2019s Palmore spent 22 years as a special agent and executive in the Federal Bureau of Investigation, specializing in counterterrorism, intelligence and cybersecurity. In the private sector, he\u2019s turned his focus to advising large-scale enterprises undergoing cloud transformation and to leadership development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dorsey brings insights on adapting to technology changes quickly and effectively and unlocking the value of AI in business through venture investing. Dorsey\u2019s venture studio High Alpha launches, scales and invests in enterprise cloud companies. He cofounded ExactTarget and led the company as CEO and chair from startup to global marketing software leader.
