{"id":10607,"date":"2024-10-24T14:48:24","date_gmt":"2024-10-24T18:48:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/?p=10607"},"modified":"2024-10-24T14:48:26","modified_gmt":"2024-10-24T18:48:26","slug":"next-weeks-presidential-lecture-featuring-2004-nobel-laureate-in-physics-moved-to-loeb-playhouse-because-of-strong-demand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/newsroom\/2024\/Q4\/next-weeks-presidential-lecture-featuring-2004-nobel-laureate-in-physics-moved-to-loeb-playhouse-because-of-strong-demand","title":{"rendered":"Next week\u2019s Presidential Lecture featuring 2004 Nobel laureate in physics moved to Loeb Playhouse because of strong demand"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. \u2014 The Presidential Lecture Series event next week featuring Nobel laureate Frank Wilczek is being moved from Fowler Hall to the larger Loeb Playhouse in Stewart Center because of strong interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wilczek, considered one of the world\u2019s most eminent theoretical physicists and a pioneer in modern quantum theory, will join Purdue University President Mung Chiang on Wednesday (Oct. 30) for the Presidential Lecture conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wilczek\u2019s Purdue appearance, titled \u201cOur Strange Universe: What Is It? What Does It Mean?,\u201d will begin at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, but a <a href=\"https:\/\/am.ticketmaster.com\/purdue\/buy\/ism\/UExTMTAzMEw=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">general admission ticket<\/a> is required. Existing Wilczek tickets for Fowler Hall will be honored for Loeb Playhouse, so there\u2019s no need to reregister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/physics.mit.edu\/faculty\/frank-wilczek\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wilczek<\/a>, the Herman Feshbach Professor of Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, shared the 2004 Nobel Prize in physics with David Gross and David Politzer for their 1973 discovery of \u201casymptotic freedom in the theory of the strong interaction,\u201d which revolutionized our understanding of nuclear matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wilczek is actually returning to Purdue. He delivered a talk titled \u201cQuantum Beauty\u201d in October 2012 as part of the university\u2019s Hubert M.
