All videos in the Campus Insights series are free for download and use by all AP members and can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/apvideohub.ap.org\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">apvideohub.ap.org<\/a> or by doing a general search on the Associated Press site. AP members may use the video or to pull quotes for print article or for broadcast or podcast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">STORYLINE<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Williams says that ostracism is when someone is ignored or excluded, and that it is important to recognize the pain that ostracism causes because it is underestimated. Research shows that ostracism isn\u2019t simply the absence of positive reinforcement but is measurably painful. People who are isolated and excluded by others become less productive, feel more unworthy and are depressed more often. During the pandemic, Williams says that lack of physical contact with others can lead to loneliness and feelings of being disconnected.
