Seizing every opportunity to make the most of my degree — that’s my giant leap.

Junior Nick Rosenorn says he feels confident the opportunities gained at Purdue will give him the best chance possible at a career he loves.

In particular, through a learning community open to all Purdue students called The Data Mine, which offers a learning and research-based residential community to introduce students to data science concepts, and equips them to solve real-world problems.

“My experience in The Data Mine has been the single greatest part of my time as a student at Purdue,” he says.

And the reasons are extensive.

One is his experience in the Corporate Partners program, in which Data Mine students can work directly with companies on data-driven projects. Nick worked on a project with pharmaceutical giant Merck for two years — an experience unique to The Data Mine.

“It helped me and my team members grow academically and professionally. We have worked on a complete, full-stack development project while being led by professional mentors at Merck,” he says.

Even his extracurriculars are a professional value-add for him. “I’ve participated in multiple hackathons and datathons at Purdue,” he says. “They’ve helped make me competitive in the marketplace because I can showcase my passion for the data sciences through tangible, innovative and collaborative solutions.”
