Pursuing a passion for filmmaking

When TV shows halted production in 2020 amid COVID-19, Purdue University graduate Jack Klink seized the opportunity to virtually edit segments for three “Saturday Night Live” episodes.

An innovative filmmaker, cinematographer and editor, the 2015 film and video studies major had previously collaborated with “SNL” cast member Chloe Fineman. So when the show scheduled quarantine editions, the two joined forces again.

A native of Lafayette, Indiana, Jack bought his first camera at age 15 and took on video commercial work that continued into college. “I always was interested in cameras, wanting to play around with them,” he says. “I started forming my company out of high school, and the biggest amount of growth it saw was during my four years at Purdue. I was getting better, learning more and pushing myself to do better work.”

Now living in Los Angeles, Jack appreciates the training ground Purdue provided. “It’s important that colleges give this attention to the arts, specifically video production,” he says. “It’s what everyone is using in business, what every organization is using on social media.”
