Connections that pay off — it starts at Purdue

An engaging and collaborative culture of learning was top of mind when Matt Stone pondered a college decision during his senior year in high school. So, the New Yorker decided to take a weekend getaway with his parents to visit a wild card school in the Midwest.

Not only did Matt discover how to combine his unique interests at Purdue University, but he was excited and confident in the support he’d receive throughout the journey — in pursuit of an Industrial Management major from the Krannert School of Management with concentrations in Financial Engineering and Supply Chain Operations.

“Purdue’s Krannert School of Management felt like a collaborative place where students worked together and wanted to help each other,” Matt says. “It felt like I could get the best of both worlds: The feel of a smaller business school and the benefits of a Big Ten university.”

To him, as a stranger from out of state, this was a big deal.

Krannert, he adds, does an excellent job making use of its alumni network to ensure students’ real-life experience in the workplace. A fellow student put him in touch with a recent Purdue grad who also happens to be a manager at Ernst and Young (EY) in Chicago.

“We talked on the phone for over an hour about opportunities and his experiences with EY. I ended up getting an internship through this alumni connection,” he says.

That’s just one of the ways he’s felt supported by an engaged Boilermaker network that wants to see him succeed. “It’s a great example of how Krannert and Purdue alumni are so willing to help current students follow their passion and achieve their goals,” Matt says.
