Lilly Endowment invests $40 million in Purdue, state, students

The biggest cash donation in Purdue's history will fund initiatives designed to foster groundbreaking research, expand high-tech job growth throughout Indiana as well as nationally and globally, and enhance opportunities for students. Purdue ranks top in state in helping students graduate on time

Purdue leads three of the four categories in an Indiana Commission for Higher Education report that shows that double-digit progress has been made in the percentage of Indiana college students enrolled and completing the minimum number of courses to graduate on time for 2013-14. Daniels, trustees request 'metropolitan university' designation for IPFW

The status of Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne would change from "regional campus" to "metropolitan university" if approval is given to a request by Purdue President Mitch Daniels, on behalf of the Purdue Board of Trustees, made in a Jan. 30 letter to Teresa Lubbers, commissioner of the Indiana Commission for Higher Education.

Daniels also requested that the commission modify the metrics applied to IPFW through the state’s performance funding formula. This change would recognize the contributions to the state and regional economy made by IPFW graduates in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). More …

The National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security have designated Purdue University Calumet a Center for Academic Excellence for Information Assurance and Cyber Defense. Purdue Calumet electrical engineering professor receives NSF CAREER grant

For the first time, a Purdue University Calumet engineering faculty member has received the National Science Foundation's prestigious CAREER Award grant. Besma Smida, assistant professor of electrical engineering, will use the grant to enhance spectrum efficiency for cellphones and other wireless communicative devices through exploring a new paradigm for two-way wireless networks. The value of the grant could increase to more than $425,000 over five years. More …

A $2.7 million U.S. Department of Labor grant to Purdue University Calumet is supporting free training for 300 Trade Adjustment Assistance-eligible workers — military veterans, those affected by foreign trade job loss and others underemployed or unemployed.
