Mobile marketing firm Tetherball moves into Purdue Research Park

March 28, 2011

INDIANAPOLIS - The technology-based advertising company that introduced the nation's first radio-frequency identification (RFID)-based mobile loyalty program has become a tenant in the Purdue Research Park of Indianapolis.

Tetherball® LLC was founded by CEO Scott Yancey in 2008. The company strengthens national brands' one-to-one relationships with customers and tracks participation in mobile marketing response, membership and rewards programs. Its Tetherball Rewards program uses text messaging to communicate with participants instantly when they check in at predetermined sites.

"To validate consumer participation, we use RFID tags tethered to consumers' mobile phones," Yancey said. "When consumers tap their tag on Tetherball RewardStations - which we manufacture - or existing contactless payment equipment at the sites, they receive personalized text messages in seconds based on their participation in the program and time of day."

Current clients include national brands in the automotive, fast-food, casual dining, convenience store and entertainment sectors. A full list can be found at https://www.tetherball360.com/casestudies.aspx

The patent-pending, proprietary Mobiquitous® platform controls all aspects of Tetherball Rewards, which earned third place in a global competition sponsored by NXP Semiconductors.

Yancey and his colleagues at Tetherball moved into the Purdue Research Park of Indianapolis to use the amenities and connections with the university.

"We came to Purdue Research Park because of the conference facilities, business support, access to Purdue University and RFID facilities, and the technology community they are creating throughout the state," Yancey said. "We benefit anytime we use the facility. We look forward to making contacts at Purdue University as we test our RFID-based products."
