Trustees approve new 2019-20 housing rates, configurations for Purdue Fort Wayne

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — To accommodate higher-than-anticipated interest in campus housing for the 2019-20 academic year, the Purdue University Board of Trustees on Tuesday (July 2) approved amended housing rates and room configurations for the Fort Wayne campus.

With projected increases in first-time, full-time students at Purdue Fort Wayne in fall 2019, campus housing is currently at 103% capacity and demand is expected to increase slightly over the summer months. Because on campus living is shown to be better for student success, retention and engagement, some room types will be reconfigured to yield more beds and accommodate the increase in students wishing to live on campus.

Current two-bedroom, two-bathroom deluxe units, which have a larger floor plan than standard two-bedroom units, will be adapted to house four students, providing up to 64 more beds and lowering the per-student cost from $8,300 to $5,420 for the 2019-20 academic year. If additional beds are needed, standard two-bedroom units also will be reconfigured to yield up to an additional 144 beds and lower the per-student cost for those units to $4,316 for the academic year. Rates for units that are not reconfigured will remain flat, as previously approved by trustees.

As announced in December 2018, housing rates on the university’s West Lafayette and Northwest campuses will remain flat for the 2019-20 academic year.
