Purdue assessing weather conditions, will communicate any changes
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University’s administration and public safety team is actively monitoring the weather forecasts and planning should extreme windchill arrive later this week.
Purdue officials will communicate any change in class schedule or university operating schedule by email and text alert. Any new information also will be posted on the campus websites, including the Campus Safety Status page, shared via social media and sent to area television, radio and print media outlets.
West Lafayette campus procedures on extreme weather conditions can be found here.
Weather preparedness information and tips are available here.
As the area braces for subzero temperatures, Carol Shelby, senior director for environmental health and public safety, offers the following advice for those who will be walking on campus:
- Make sure you have winter footwear with excellent treads to help keep your footing on ice.
- Wear several layers of warm clothing and cover exposed skin.
- Use the Purdue pedestrian tunnels and enclosed walkways.
- Ride CityBus, which is free to everyone with a Purdue student, faculty, staff or retiree identification card.
