Indiana Forage Council to hold seminar, meeting

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Indiana Forage Council (IFC) will host two speakers as part of its annual meeting, and invites members and non-members alike to attend the event held Feb. 28 in Marshall, Indiana.

IFC, led by Purdue’s Southern Indiana Purdue Agricultural Center Superintendent Jason Tower, will begin the annual meeting at 4:30 p.m. (EST) at Turkey Run State Park Inn, located at 8102 Park Rd, Marshall. Speakers will be Jarred Brooke, a Purdue Extension Wildlife Specialist and Sara Creech, owner of Blue Yonder Organic Farm.

Brooke will discuss common farmland wildlife, their habitat needs and steps landowners can take to integrate wildlife that are less common today than they were several decades ago, back into their farms.

Creech will share how personal tragedy led to healing through farming, and how working with nature leads to restoration and hope. What began as a garden project for growing quality healthy produce for her family, has grown into a fully-functioning farm growing all kinds of produce as well as pasture-raised meat.

Keith Johnson, Purdue Extension Forage Specialist said, “Attending the meeting and seminar is a great way to interact with individuals who have an appreciation for forages and the contributions they make to animal agriculture, wildlife habitat, soil health, and protection of the environment.”

Following the meeting, dinner will be served at 6 p.m., and the seminar featuring Brooke and Creech will begin at 7 p.m. Attendance at the meeting is not required for participation at the dinner and seminar. The cost of attending the dinner and seminar is $20, due at the event. Attendees should RSVP by Feb. 21 to Jason Tower, towerj@purdue.edu, or 812-678-4427.
