Central Indiana Field Day set for Aug. 29
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The 2018 Central Indiana Field Day will bring together experts to share information with attendees on a wide range of topics that impact the agricultural industry such as unmanned aerial vehicles, weed research, cover crops and entomology, and state transportation regulations.
The free event will be from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on Aug. 29 at Dull's Farm, 1765 W. Blubaugh Ave., Thorntown. To register for the event and lunch, go online to http://bit.ly/2018CentralINFieldDayRegistration.
Tom Dull of Dull's Farm will be the lunch keynote speaker. He will discuss the diversification of traditional agriculture and encourage producers to consider ways to diversify their operations. Tom and his wife, Kerry, have lived on their farmstead in Boone County since 1982 and began growing Christmas trees to sell in 1985. Since that time, the family has expanded its operation to include wreathmaking, a petting zoo, gift shop, The Stone Cabin Inn Bed & Breakfast, and more.
Other speakers include:
* Joseph Ikley, a Purdue University research associate in botany and plant pathology, will provide an agronomic weed update.
* Rodney Rulon of Rulon Farms will discuss the management and economics of cover crops.
* John Obermeyer, Purdue Extension integrated pest management specialist, will give an entomology update.
* Mike Templeton, surface transportation consultant, will discuss state transportation regulations.
* Michael Langemeier, Purdue cropping systems economist and professor of agricultural economics, will talk about land values and cash rents.
* David Osborne, Purdue Extension-Ripley County educator, will speak on pond management.
* Klein Ileleji, Purdue professor of agricultural and biological engineering, will discuss postharvest management and grain storage.
* Extension educators Austin Pearson (Tipton County), Scott Gabbard (Shelby County) and Mark Carter (Delaware County) will provide an overview of unmanned aerial vehicles, commonly referred to as drones, and their application to modern agriculture.
Private Applicator Recertification Program (PARP), Continuing Education Units and Continuing Certification Hours credits also are available to those attending. There is a $10 fee for those seeking PARP credits.
