Appointments, honors and activities

Faculty and staff honors:

- You-Yeon Won, a professor in the Davidson School of Chemical Engineering, has received three years of funding from the National Science Foundation to study pharmaceutical polymers. More information can be found here.

- Zoltan K. Nagy, a professor in the Davidson School of Chemical Engineering, has won the 2018 American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Process Development Division Research Award for significant technical contributions to the advancement of process development. Notables:

- The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) has chosen the Regenstrief National Center for Medical Device Informatics as a recipient of this year’s IHI/NPSF Lucian Leape Institute Medtronic Safety Culture and Technology Innovator Award. The award was presented Sept. 13 (Thursday) at the 2018 IHI/NPSF Lucian Leape Institute Forum and Keynote Dinner in Newton, Massachusetts. The award program was created with an unrestricted educational grant from Medtronic, inaugural funder of the IHI/NPSF Lucian Leape Institute, to recognize teams that improve patient safety through the successful implementation of technology and culture change. The Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering at Purdue University is being recognized for work to advance the safety of infusion pumps, which are commonly used in health care to administer medication or nutrients intravenously. - The Office of Undergraduate Research at Purdue University is now part of Purdue Libraries, creating a partnership between two vital resource areas for undergraduate students, faculty, and staff at Purdue. Now located in the Hicks Undergraduate Library, the office is easily accessible and continues to serve as a central resource to promote and expand experiential learning for undergraduate students through research experiences, creative endeavors and scholarship with skilled mentors. Alumni honors:

- The Davidson School of Chemical Engineering presented three of its distinguished alumni with the 2018 Outstanding Chemical Engineer Award. Stephen R. Cornell (BSChE '79), Prasenjeet Ghosh (PhD '02) and Marcy Ziek (BSChE '77) were honored at a banquet on Sept. 6. More information can be found here.

- Jeff Butts, superintendent of the Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township, has been selected as the 2019 Indiana Superintendent of the Year by the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents. He has served as the district’s superintendent since 2011 and earned his Ph.D. in educational leadership from Purdue in 2005. During his time at MDS Wayne, Butts has facilitated strategies resulting in a 34 percent increase in the district’s graduation rate. He’s also overseen the development and opening of Indiana’s first public virtual high school, Achieve Virtual Education Academy. More information can be found here.
