Rural America Farm & Garden Expo scheduled for September
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Spotlighting the region’s agribusiness, Purdue Extension-Jay County and the Jay County Chamber of Commerce will present the second Annual Rural America Farm & Garden Expo, Sept. 8-9, at the Jay County Fairgrounds, 806 E. Votaw St., Portland.
“The event presents a variety of opportunities for everyone through educational seminars, exhibitors, workshops, contests, livestock shows, FFA soil judging contest, kids activities and lots of food options,” said Larry Temple, Jay County Purdue Extension educator – agriculture and natural resources.
A seminar addressing the important topic of succession planning, no matter the size of the family farm or ranch, will be presented by Michael Langemeier, economics professor, Department of Agricultural Economics, Purdue University Center for Commercial Agriculture.
Additional Purdue Extension seminars include the subjects of pollinators and Jay County Master Gardeners Rain Gardens.
The Private Applicator Recertification Program seminar through Purdue Extension will be available on Sept. 9 at 9 a.m.
The expo also includes demonstrators, implement dealers, and farm, agribusiness, agricultural technology and lawn/garden exhibitors.
Expo hours are 10 a.m.- 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, and 8 a.m.- 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 9. Admission and parking are free.
