Never too early to Think Summer

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The 2016 Summer Session at Purdue was the largest summer enrollment on record for the university and the largest summer enrollment increase in the United States, according to the North American Association of Summer Sessions.

Blake Nemelka, director of summer sessions, expects Summer 2017 to continue that trend.

"We had 12 percent more credit hours taken in 2016 than we did in 2015 and, by adding 50 additional courses this summer, we hope to increase that number in 2017," he said.

Those courses range from zero gravity flight experience to oceanography to theater appreciation. For a complete list of courses, click here.

More than 14,000 students took advantage of the Think Summer program in 2016, including 8,489 on-campus-only students, 3,959 online-only students and 1,868 students who did both on-campus and online.

“Taking advantage of the summer offerings helps students stay on track or even graduate early,” Nemelka said. “More than half of undergraduate students who graduate in four years or less have taken summer courses.”

Purdue offers Summer Start, Summer Stay and Summer Finish, all of which are part of the university’s strategic initiatives to transform education.

Summer Start is a bridge program for incoming freshmen; Summer Stay benefits students who want to get back on track or ahead in their degree program; and Summer Finish is a scholarship initiative that helps students on track to graduate in December at their current pace use summer courses to graduate in August.

Registration for Think Summer programs began Jan. 30 and rolls out according to these time ticket groups
