Extension director to present ag economic update at Fort Wayne Farm Show

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Jason Henderson, associate dean of the Purdue University College of Agriculture and director of Purdue Extension, will deliver an update on Indiana’s agricultural economy Jan. 18 at 10 a.m. during the Fort Wayne Farm Show.

Other Purdue presentations during the show are:

* Jan. 17, 1:30-3:30 p.m.: “Writing a Nutrient Management Plan,” W. Ashley Hammac, conservation cropping systems agronomist. Other panelists are Trish Waller, fertilizer control specialist with the Office of Indiana State Chemist; Chad Penn, soil scientist with the Agricultural Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture; and Greg LaBarge, agronomic systems field specialist with Ohio State University. Private Applicator Recertification Program (PARP) and commercial pesticide applicator (CCH) credits will be available for Indiana residents.

* Jan. 18, 1 p.m.: “Grain and Livestock Market Outlook,” Chris Hurt, Extension agricultural economist.

* Jan. 18, 5:30 p.m.: “Opportunities for Diversified Food and Farming Systems in Indiana,” Tamara Benjamin, assistant program leader for diversified food and farming systems.

* Jan. 19, 1-2:30 p.m.: “Farm Succession Planning Workshop,” Ed Farris, Extension educator in Huntington County, and Paul Marcellino, Extension educator in Howard County.

The 2017 Fort Wayne Farm Show will be held Jan. 17-19 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, 4000 Parnell Ave., Fort Wayne. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 17; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Jan. 18; and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 19. Educational sessions are provided by Purdue Extension and the Northeastern Indiana Soil and Water Conservation Districts.
