Books and Coffee talks explore new, popular literary works

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. —The Books and Coffee series features talks by notable Purdue faculty and friends of the university on recent books that have made some waves. Purdue President Mitch Daniels will be among this year’s speakers.  The event is free and open to the public.

The talks are 4-5 p.m. and will take place Feb. 9, 16, 23 and March 23. Refreshments will be provided starting at 4 p.m. and the presentation on the book begins at 4:30 p.m. Attendees also can enter a drawing for prizes from local merchants. 

The talks are sponsored by the Department of English and Purdue Student Union Board and were launched in 1951.

  • Thursday, February 9, STEW 302/306.  Dorsey Armstrong, Professor of English and Provost Fellow, College of Liberal Arts, will be speaking on Matt Ruff’s Lovecraft Country.
  • Thursday, February 16, STEW 302/306.   Janet Alsup, Professor and Head of Curriculum & Instruction, College of Education, will be speaking on Laura Ruby’s Bone Gap.
  • Thursday, February 23, Union South Ballroom.  Nush Powell, Associate Professor of English & University Faculty Scholar, College of Liberal Arts, will be speaking on Noelle Stevenson’s Nimona.
  • Thursday, March 23, Ringel Gallery, Purdue Memorial Union (reception); 4:30 pm, Fowler Hall, Stewart Center (presentation).  Mitch Daniels, President of Purdue University, will be speaking on Ron Chernow’s Alexander Hamilton
