Purdue's Veterinary Teaching Hospital to discount services for pets belonging to 100 percent disabled veterans

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Purdue University's College of Veterinary Medicine will begin offering a discount of up to 50 percent for many services to small-animal patients belonging to 100 percent disabled American veterans living in Indiana.

The discount off normal client rates includes many of the medical, surgical, imaging and laboratory procedures performed in the hospital.

"Our Veterinary Teaching Hospital has offered a discount for registered service dogs, and as we thought about pet-owning veterans who have a 100 percent disability and the importance of the human-animal bond in their lives, we recognized that extending a similar discount to them would be a way to make a positive impact," said Willie Reed, dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine. "In finalizing the policy, the hospital received helpful input from several people with expertise about disabled veterans. We are honored to take this step to help out and show appreciation to these pet owners who made such a sacrifice serving our country."

To meet the eligibility criteria for the discount policy, veterans will need to show proof of identification and a letter from the state of Indiana or the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs verifying 100 percent disabled status.
