Mothers, daughters invited to learn about engineering

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Mothers and daughters will share the importance of engineering during an event by Purdue University's Women in Engineering Program and YWCA Greater Lafayette.

The mother-daughter engineering program will be 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 6 at the YWCA, 605 N. Sixth St., Lafayette, Indiana.

The program is for fourth- through sixth-grade girls and their mothers. The signup deadline is Aug. 1. To register, call the YWCA at 765-742-0075.

During the event, mothers and daughters work on a project together. Students also will work on projects together while mothers learn about encouraging their daughters' interest in science and engineering.

Students will participate in hands-on engineering and science projects, learn leadership and academic skills and experience how engineers make a difference in the world, all under the guidance of Purdue female engineering students.

A free reception for dads and siblings will begin at noon.
