Purdue Libraries to host 'Auto Indiana' exhibit

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University Libraries will host "Auto Indiana," an Indiana Historical Society exhibit that takes visitors through Indiana's automotive past.

The exhibit will be April 1 through May 1 in Hicks Undergraduate Library. It is free and open to the public.

Indiana's automotive history includes inventors and innovators like Elwood Haynes and Ralph Teeter, and automakers like Studebaker and Duesenberg. The exhibit examines ties between the automobile industry and the development of many other economic opportunities like iron, steel and glass businesses. It also explores how the automobile became part of the "American Dream" and popular culture.

The library also will host "The Sports Car: A Transnational History," a presentation by Keenan J. Shimko, teaching assistant in the Department of History. The presentation will be 7 p.m. April 20 in Hicks Undergraduate Library, Room G980D. Light refreshments will be served. The presentation is free and open to the public.
