Dauch Scholarship Challenge to increase affordability for Purdue out-of-state students
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A $4 million gift from Sandy Dauch and her family is providing matching funds to initiate new, endowed scholarships for out-of-state students attending Purdue University’s West Lafayette campus.
Through the Dauch Scholarship Challenge, $3 million will be available starting Feb. 15 to provide one-to-one matches to donors who fund a scholarship endowment for non-Indiana residents who are undergraduate students or enrolled in one of Purdue’s professional programs. An additional $1 million has already been used as matching funds for scholarships in the School of Nursing for out-of-state students.
“It’s a pleasure to support the university and its Ever True campaign in this way and to help extend the tremendous benefits of a Purdue education to students from across the country,” said Sandy, who with her late husband, Dick, has been a generous contributor to Purdue for more than 30 years. Dick earned a bachelor’s degree from Purdue in industrial management and science in 1964 and played fullback and linebacker for the Boilermakers from 1961-1963. The Dick and Sandy Dauch Alumni Center is named in their honor. The couple’s two daughters graduated from Purdue with nursing degrees in 1987. Sandy is a resident of Marco Island, Florida.
“Affordability and accessibility are the cornerstones of making Purdue’s world-class education a world-class value,” said Purdue President Mitch Daniels. “The ongoing generous support from those like the Dauch family, when paired with initiatives like keeping our tuition frozen for a fourth consecutive year, puts a Purdue education within the reach of qualified students and their families.”
The $4 million gift supports Ever True: The Campaign for Purdue University and its priority Place Students First, which includes a $400 million to $500 million goal for student support that aims to ensure that Purdue remains affordable and accessible for a vibrant and talented student body. Of Purdue’s Spring 2016 enrollment of 27,510 undergraduate students, 7,379, or 26.8 percent, are out-of-state students.
The matching funds provided through the Dauch Scholarship Challenge will be available on a first-come basis to donors pledging contributions of $25,000 to $250,000. For more information, contact the University Development Office at scholarships@prf.org or call 765-494-2727 or 1-800-677-8780.
