Appointments, honors and activities

Faculty and staff honors:

- Todd Kelley, associate professor of engineering/technology teacher education, will be honored this spring with the Distinguished Technology and Engineering Professional designation from the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association. The honor recognizes educators who have demonstrated a high level of competence and professional activity in the field of technology and engineering education. Kelley, who coordinates the ETTE program in the Purdue Polytechnic Institute, has published extensively about infusing engineering design in K-12 education. - The Center for Research on Diversity and Inclusion, which is housed in the College of Liberal Arts, is recognizing Purdue faculty, research fellows and a graduate student on Feb. 25 during a Celebration of Excellence in Diversity Scholarship. The celebration is 4-5 p.m. in the West Faculty Lounge, Purdue Memorial Union. A small reception with refreshments will be held prior to the awards ceremony.

Recipients of the faculty research awards are:

* Jean Beaman, assistant professor of sociology and 
affiliated with the African-American Studies and Research Center.

* TJ Boisseau, director and associate professor of Women's, Gender, & Sexuality Studies Program.

* Alfred J. Lopez, professor of English and comparative literature.

 Recipient of the graduate research award is:

* Jared Wright, a doctoral student in the Department of Sociology.

The recipients of the faculty incentive grants are:

* Maren Linett, associate professor of English.

* Dwaine Jengelley, post-doctoral teaching fellow, Honors College.

* Jason Ware, post-doctoral teaching fellow, Honors College.

* Stephanie Zywicki, assistant professor of Education.

- Wei Zheng, professor of toxicology and head of the School of Health Sciences, has been named a fellow of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences. The academy, which was established in 1981, recognizes the accomplishments of senior toxicologists in the areas of education and continuing education; publications and professional development; and demonstration of professional recognition. Zheng's research focuses on toxic metal manganese-induced Parkinsonism and lead-associated Alzheimer's disease.

- Rebecca Hershey, director of Purdue United Way, received the 2015 Individual Rookie of the Year honors from United Way of Greater Lafayette. The award recognizes individual campaign leaders who excel in their new positions. Hershey has worked for Purdue for nine years in resource development and as a senior fundraiser with the College of Veterinary Medicine. In 2015 she was hired to lead United Way fundraising on campus. The Purdue campaign, launched in August, exceeded its goal with more than 800 new donors.
