Purdue’s second annual 'Day of Giving' set for April 29

April 2, 2015

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - On Wednesday, April 29, Purdue University will celebrate its second annual Day of Giving, a 24-hour online and social media event designed to encourage contributions to the university and its programs.

Last year Purdue students, alumni, faculty, staff, parents and friends from 15 countries and all 50 states made 6,517 donations - many of them through online competitions - and raised $7.49 million.

“This year a number of new opportunities promise to kick Purdue Day of Giving into even higher gear, inspiring pride and generosity across the university family,” said Amy Noah, vice president for development of the Purdue Research Foundation, an independent organization that acts for the benefit of Purdue University.

Among the features of this year’s Day of Giving:

* 23 hourly challenges will keep Purdue’s participating programs (academic and non-academic) in the running for cash prizes. “Largest single donation,” “Highest number of donations,” “Most alumni donors of the last decade” and “Random Purdue Day of Giving selfie” are among the challenges. A special “Share the video” contest features “I Am a Boilermaker,” highlighting Purdue student Chynna Fry, a junior with a double major in acting and management.

* A competition specifically for student organizations will engage some 100 participating organizations in a friendly rivalry and chance for cash prizes.

* On-campus activities will include a student celebration at Ross-Ade Stadium. Details on this and other festivities will be announced closer to the April 29 event.

“Day of Giving brings the whole Purdue family together to build a better, stronger university and provide a more affordable education for students,” Noah said. “It’s about granting opportunity and transforming lives.”

Those who give to Purdue during the Day of Giving can direct their gifts where they choose by going online to DayOfGiving.purdue.edu or by calling toll-free at 800-319-2199.
